I would fly Virgin because of their good reputation and image as something really special.

I would fly American, because there is more room in coach (assuming you're going coach). Also, the last two round trips I have flown on VS (once coach and once UC) the cabin crew were terrible on 3 out of 4 sectors.

If you're going bizz, then either, as you'll get the old Upper Class on VS and the OK bizz seat on AA.

firstly a slight correction: VS does have UCS (not the old j2000) to LAX on its B744 flights as all LHR B744's are now fitted with UCS. However if you fly on the VS23/24 this is normally an A343 which won't be fitted until next year.

If flying economy then it depends what your priorities are. VS has good IFE and more often than not will offer better service (I know there are exceptions before I get roasted for that comment  Big grin ). AA does offer more room but again this will depend on when you are flying as all of AA's aircraft are now having seats put back in the economy cabin.

Lastly do you have a preferrence of aircraft?. AA will fly you on a B772, VS on a B744 or A343. All good long haul aircraft but we all have favourites Smile.

I'd go with AA for obvious reasons... Smile they have MRTC, good F class seating. Let us know what you chose.

I would go with AA, just for the fact I would be in coach and I like the option of having just a two seater with the 777. My wife and I flew Virgin from SFO-LHR in June and felt like sardines. Also, the service wasn't the best. Hard to even get some water from the flight attendants. Flight back from London was better on the service end of things, but I hate traveling economy on a 747-400.

It was too bad since we had heard so many glowing reports about Virgin. Must have been from people who get to fly in Upper Class.

Hmm good one.

VS for the free bar, or AA to get my miles and MRTC.

To be honest it would come down to the cheaper option for me.

MRTC stands for "more room throught coach".................that is what AA claims to be big on, however, they are removing that soon..

I would travel AA because as SFO212 stated, unless you are flying business/first on VS, you are going to feel like a sardine in a sardine can (i've traveled on VS a few times myself and I concur with that comment), where as with AA, you will have more room....I don't think they are going to be removing the MRTC on the 777 so quickly..but you will need to find out..

plus, FF (frequent flyer milage) is something to consider.......

also, check out...

Catatonic.....just following the rules. They created the Polls and Preferences forum because these type of questions were clogging up Civil Aviation. Just trying to be helpful. Check that forum....it's useful for these type of questions. The Trip Reports forum is also helpful in determining which airline to fly. You can read the experiences of others who have flown the airlines in which you're interested.

I have been flying AA from since 1985 more often than not because I do not have a choice. Except for one transcon flight. Service has always been bad to mediocre at best.

I would choose VS hands down if I had a choice.

I know I should not say this but fly Virgin Atlantic!

I have flown with them a few times now, mainly in Upper and wow! Their new flat beds!!! Man! Lucky I dont work on VS otherwise I would just sleep the whole time!

VS is better on that route.

Kate.

>Catatonic.....just following the rules.<

The rules saying you should bash someone because of your preference? Considering that this is a service question, and service questions pop up here all the time, I don't see it as clogging anything. Also, considering how few people look at P&P, there would likely be no response

Firstly, thanks to whoever got this thread moved! I doubt anyone will look at it ever again now!

Secondly, the decision to fly American was purely down to price, would have preferred to fly Virgin but you cant beat AA's price on this.

So what's wrong with encouraging everyone to use all of the features of this great website?

If you think no one reads Polls and Preferences then that may give you an indication why they created it. Few of the Airliners.net users were participating in these type of questions...travel assistance and favorite livery/airplane/first class, etc....but they were taking up lots of thread lines in Civil Aviation. When you take a look at Polls an Preferences, you will find many questions like this one.

As a young person, I would have to say Virgin. I find their overall product offering to be much more compatible with my needs and likes. Plus, if you are lucky enough to get it, v.port is hard to beat.

AA is a lot better than VS to LAX until VS starts operating that A346.....if they ever do send it out here to LAX.

008 is a 747 and therefore has the new UCS and v:port, 024 is a A340, normally -300, so its not as good, but the ife and the service is still better.

Cheers,
