Would You Fly Aeroflot?

Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:02 pm

Hello everyone,

First of all, I'm not bashing Aeroflot. I was looking for flight to PEK from FRA and SU gave me an amazing fare, only 500 euros during peak season, hundreds of euros cheaper than other airlines! Would you fly them? (are they safe enough? How is the service?)

SU,

** AEROFLOT ***
16NOV-TU FRA PEK ** **
11 SU 106 J4 C2 Y2 S2 X2 M2 K2 V2 FRASVO 1405 1925 320 L 0
T2 Q2 H2 U. G. N. L. W.
ATTN NON-SMOKING FLIGHT
12 SU 571 A2 F2 J4 C2 Y4 S4 X4 M4 PEK 2130 0950 #1 777 S 0
K4 V4 T4 Q4 H4 U4 G- N- L4 W4
ATTN NON-SMOKING FLIGHT

Well, SU is operating an A320 on the FRA-SVO leg, and a 777 on the SVO-PEK segment. I would have no problems flying on SU!, Although I have never flown them before.

Regards,

I have flown them (LHR-SVO-DEL-SVO-LHR; 2x 310, 1x 772, 1x IL9) and was satisfied with everything, really. GO FOR IT!  Smile

My grandmother just got back from her SEA-MOSCOW trip on them. She said they were fine except the Russians don't fix a thing. The IFE was a main screen thing, and it was playing a really long French movie. There was a crack in the tape so when it reached that point it would start all over again. The F/A's didn't turn it off and if played for the entire flight. Even during landing and taxiing the movie continued. But, she said they were a fine airline.

Thank you very much for not bashing Aeroflot. Please do give them a try.
Yes, sometimes they tend to not fix things, but no one is perfect! Just ask the flight attendant, they will be happy to assist you.

Aeroflot777
Why would anyone bag a perfectly good airline ?
Yes they had a few problems in the past but they have moved forward now and are developing into a first class airline in my books.
Love to fly them one day .
Alos i prefer the old livery i have no problem with the new one but the old one on the a319s are magic

I only flew Aeroflot back in 1990 (Madrid-Moscow-Leningrad-Moscow-Madrid) so I can't comment on how the airline is today, but let me just say that back then I had a great experience. I would love to fly them again to see all the differneces!

Catatonic,
Aeroflot does not allow smoking on board! They banned it in 2003. Let me tell you something..I vividly remember flying with Aeroflot when they still allowed it. It was only in the back of the plane. To tell you the truth it wasn't all that bad. ( And I'm a person who hates cigarettes and the smell of cigarette smoke) I am just wondering how the FAs could manage not passing out in the back galley, I would imagine it's hell back there.

The modern era of Aeroflot is great!!! During the Soviet Union times, with their Tupolevs and Yakovlevs, etc, I would not fly them. But now, with the occidental airplanes, no problem. I heard a friend who have flown on Aeroflot (PRG-SVO), and he said that the service was great (food regular-like every airline nowadays), and the chicks....marvelous (I saw once the SU crew at PRG boarding their plane to SVO, the chicks were just great!!!!)

NIKV69,
You call yourself interested in aviation? Personally, I think that people who are really into aviation would try to fly as many times and as many airlines and aircraft as possible."I would never fly Aeroflot" - why not? They are just like any other airline, perfectly good, but yet you have a problem with something...

I completely agree. Surely everyones mission on this forum is to fly every airline and every type of plane in the world (not having as a go at the person who posted as they started quite a good discussion).

I would just like NIKV69 to justify his brash views.

NIKV69,
he´s another of those "I´m american, you are not an american, then fuck you."(not offending any other normal americans. I like America and americans, but in every country, you found people like this).
If you are saying this, justify your response.

Yeah, of course. The main thing is that you get to your destination safely and SU does just that. I would fly them if I had the chance. I would like to fly as many different airlines as I can, it would be a good experience in my opinion.

I heard that SU have improved a lot. I know very little of their Russian made aircrafts as I've never flown on any before. Pardon my ignorance but I don't trust these aircrafts (if I'm being stupid, so be it). I will however fly on their new Boeings and Airbusses. SU is just another airline, so I don't understand why there are people out there who thinks that SU must be avoided like a plague.

i watched an incredible documentation about flying in russia and other GUS states years ago. it wasnt specially about aeroflot, more about the new installed companies after the separation of other soviet states, which led to a separation of parts of aeroflot, too.

it was awesome, thrilling and fascinating to see under which circumstances theese crews had to work. paying for spare parts on their own to be able to fix some small problems. how they started to collect money from the passengers to be able to pay the sum. and lots of other stories from business travellers.

i have had only once the chance to fly on a tupolew (VN), but it was as ever a great experience to go with a new aircraft i havent flown on before. even if those stories can scare the hell out of passengers, i believe the situation has changed a lot. and aeroflot as the flag carrier surely does everything to enhance whatever they can.

so, dont mind people who say they would never! or would you like to have such people sitting beside you on the flight?

go for it and enjoy!!

Of course! ive flown on aeroflot 3 times round trip(and one time 1-way but thats when i was moving to the US). Each time they were great. On a 767(i think VP-BAV,either that or VP-BAY) i accidently walked into the business cabin for the lavs, and it looked better than business cabins ive seen on UA and a few others. Food is always great (well except how they like to hide mayo packets under the salmon filet  Big thumbs up ). Id love to fly them more.
