Where Was Your Ultimate Experience In An Airport?

Fri Nov 19, 2004 3:05 am

Hello to all.

As a brand new member-although I have been following the threads for over a year- I want to launch a new topic (sorry in advance if it has already been discussed in the past!):

Which, to your understanding, is the best airport in the world? ...where You have had that great experience.

Personally I have had the 'opportunity' to fly to or from over 70 different airports, and in my opinion the very best is Chek Lap Kok in Hong Kong, where the atmosphere is great, it´s spacious, lots of light, fantastic views of the planes, perfectly conditioned, nice bars and shops, friendly and relaxed attitude of all staff.. All together, superb.

Maybe you would also like to quote the worst... or least tempting  Wink/being sarcastic my worst experience was, a long time ago, in Shanghai old airport. But that is another story!

Look forward to your comments.

Welcome EUROBUS!!
For me the BEST airport is MCO ! It´s beautiful, easy to locate things, very well structured, with good restaurants, a good hotel, it´s very clean, and it is located in my favorite city outside of Brazil!!

All the Best!!

I would say the same TR763 about TPA!

Anyways, I have to say i found Dubai to be extremely nice to transfer - fabulous design, easy to use, courteous staff and one amazing airline in particular!!

Next Flight: DUB-BOS (EI), BOS-DEN-PDX (SWA), SEA-BOS (AS)

Bienvenido EUROBUS, my warm regards to the charming town of Valladolid.

I also visited about 70 airports, and the ones I like most are Singapore Changi, Amsterdam Schiphol and Dubai.
On the other side, I love small airfields such as Mae Hong Son in Thailand or Mataram in Indonesia, they really give a feeling of adventure.

Sorry, but I love O'Hare. The disorganized chaos and planes planes and more planes....*everywhere*.

if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

For me it has to be... KAI TAK AIRPORT...

Go to the southwesternmost gate, and watch planes come in runway 13 on their curved approach ALL DAY until late night.

I used to take the morning flight from CGK to Kai Tak, and take the last flight to London... so i can just watch the planes all day!

God I must be Crazy!

Hello Eurobus!

I agree with you that Ckek Lap Kok in HGK is great. An other spacious and superb airport I have visited is Pudong in Shanghai.

The worst has to be Simon Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela. Very dark and boring.

Hell yeah about ORD!! I love going into that airport. I'm usually in one of the United Terminals, and when it's busy, the electricity in the air is just magic (to me at least). You can walk down Terminal C to get on your 737 flight to Des Moines and right next to you is a 777 going to Amsterdam or London or Tokyo. It's a planewatchers paradise. and it offers great peoplewatching opportunties as well. My last flight to/from O'hare was a few weeks ago and i saw:

A group of 6 gentlemen all decked out in Northwestern (University) apparel, who apparently travel to each and every away game (they had just came back from the Penn State game) and the next week they were going to Champaign to see them play the Illini.

I met a woman who's best friend went to Loras, which is about 3 blocks away from the University i attend. her friend actually lived in my hometown and come to find out had came to my parents business and knew my mother.

I met a guy who went to a college about 20 miles away from where i go to school, and had come to Dubuque on numerous occasions.

A group of teen-aged girls (who didn't look nearly as young as they most likely were) from Wheaton who were on their way to an indoor track competition.

and of course more than i can even recount. Obviously you can find these types of scenes in any airport, but for me O'hare is "where it's at" i spose and cannot say that i get that feeling anywhere else, and i've been to a lot of airports.

I'll throw in another vote for ORD!! Every time I am there it is an exciting experience. So many flights departing to so many different destinations. Even just driving on I-294 having planes land right over you when they are using 27 L/R and being able to see the int'l terminal 5 and all the different planes there in the late afternoon/evening. The taxiway brige over the access road is great too! Always a good time at ORD.  Big thumbs up

Lets see, my best airport experience was at EWR. It was on March 6, 2004. I was taking a day trip to Rochester, NY on CO via EWR. When I go to EWR I discovered that my flights to and from ROC were both delayed so I would have missed my flight to MSY via IAH. Anyway I got to spend 7 hours in EWR concourse C. There is nothing better then spending 7 hours walking around and watching all the CO jets departing and arriving.

Great layout, enjoyable scenery and architecture

I'd put PHX close behind simply because of hassle-free spotting, a 180 from MCO

When I was young I always dreamed about the crossing escalators in CDG 1  Smile I was very excited when I flew from there for the first time in 2000, even if I have to admit that the rest of the airport isn't very impressive... But for now I'm very excited to discover SIN in a couple of months !!!
