Your Personal Top 3 List Over Own Photos.

Sun Nov 21, 2004 3:44 am

I know this is going to be one of those "plug your photos" threads, but instead of meaningless plugging, I'd like to see the 3 photos you have taken which you are the most pleased with. (Note that they don't have to be a.net photos.)

Also, write some words about why these photos in your mind are elevated above the rest of your work.

My Top 3 are:

I like this because when I took it, I never thought it would look as sharp as it does. It was dark, windy, and snowing. Plus the temperature had me shaking so much I couldn't hold the camera. In the "chaos", I placed the camera on a brick wall nearby, and pressed the button. I love the calm and quiet surroundings in the pic, especially considering what it was like standing there as the photo was taken.  Smile

I was really surprised that this didn't become more popular on this website.  Smile It is the result of low sun, rainy storm in the distance, patience, and a really crappy 2.5 Mp camera... Big grin I was very fortunate that the conditions turned out like this, as the weather forecast predicted rain. Several aircraft passed on final in this incredible light, but this one turned out the best in my mind.

No doubt, my favorite. After a 30 minute walk from the building I lived at in the Air Force base, I stood and enjoyed the sunset on the end of rwy07 at Bodø. I knew the swedish planes would return soon, and just hoped I would leave with an "OK" shot. As I fired up the camera for the fighters making a flypast, I noticed the battery level was getting low. When this plane approached I must have been thinking "oh my god oh my god oh my god", though to be honest the moment is a complete blank to me now... I do remember saying to myself afterwards "That is one of the best photos I have ever taken." When the remaining fighters approached and I attempted to photograph them, the batteries died. But I didn't mind at all. I just stood there in the sunset and looked as the planes glided over my head and landed. The remark for the photo are the words that went through my head while standing there, on that wonderful evening in march...  Smile

Ok, those were my top 3 favorites, now let's see yours.

And remember, there is nothing wrong with being proud of your own images.  Smile

Well , a plug thread! YAY!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Anyways , not a bad idea of a thread. Here I go (don't expect alot of comments from me on these pics).

I took this shot after seeing an oppurtunity to get some ineteresting terrain and ground objects in. The "pie-charts" give this shot a nice effect and ofcourse the DANGER sign on the engine is a nice extra. All in all , tried something different and I am happy with it.

I never thought this picture would ever make it. I was snapping away at this point still learning how to use my 300D. I hadn't made any settings on the camera and shot fully auto since I wasn't fimiliar with it. All in all , the sun gives a great effect and a nice sillouette for the engine.

Well , what can I say about this one? I didn't have my Canon 18-55mm to take a full shot of this aircraft. So I included the engines in this pic. The exposure was brilliant and the colours came out well. Timing and a bit of luck in the fact I was walking past it when it was starting up , contributed to this being my favorite shot.

I would've liked to include this but its only 3 pics allowed  Smile

I like this rotation. You can see the amazing power these engines produce.

Because I like 757's and the colours of Icelandair look cool Smile Note the left main gear already off the ground while the right gear is still down.

Thanks for your replies guys...

Shame this thread was moved to this forum, as there aren't as many photographers here as in the aviation photography forum...

Oh well, better than nothing..

I don't have much to be proud of considering I'm still using 35mm. But I'm going digital by the end of the month so in a few weeks I hopefully will have something reasonable to showcase. Until then:

Thom@s, that last Myaviation photo is an absolute stunner! I know many people have already complimented you on this photo in your thread about in over in AvPhotog, but it really is superb and it's a shame it wasn't accepted. Excellent work!  Big thumbs up

It's hard to choose, but here are my modest top three:

I loved the lighting on this one!

With the sun lighting the plane from behind and dark storm clouds forming the backdrop, the contrast of this scene is great.

Certainly not a high hitter, but my personal favourite at the moment. In terms of subject it's a pretty ordinary photo, but I'm extremely pleased with the lighting and quality.

Cheers,
