What Would You Do With 12,000 BA Miles?

Wed Nov 24, 2004 12:24 am

Now that I've reached the measly figure of 12,700-something points, I can get a "free" return trip to anywhere in Europe 1 from the UK (which I think basically means anything west of and including Germany I believe).

So, where would you go? I'm thinking different equipment (ie not 737 or 319/320/321), somewhere worth visiting (that's HAJ out the way then  Wink/being sarcastic ) both in terms of airport and city centre, that sort of thing.

I'll be flying from either BRS, LON (any), or BHX.

Once I've used up my points, the BA card is going on the Christmas fire, to be replaced by a "proper" frequent flyer card!

Cheers!

What's the furthest you can go ? I'd get the most value out of those miles if I were you. How about GIB or MJV ? Maybe somewhere in the Canaries ? or Madeira ?

BA Miles redemption zones

Europe 1
Belgium, Channel Islands, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom (including domestic routes).

That doesn't even include Spain! Flying nearly 53,000 miles with them and this is all I get?!?!

I would go for Zurich, nice airport and a nice destination overall. Nice, France, could be nice too!

I would suggest NCE then, if you're stuck with Northern Europe. It's a pleasant city to visit, with Cannes and Monaco very close by. BA344/345 LHR-NCE-LHR is operated with a 757, so that could take care of the equipment requirement. Weather's pretty good for winter, sunny and temperatures around 15-20 C on a good day.

Don't waste your 12,000miles on a lousy European flight!

Purchase 12,000 or 13,000 miles from BA. £207 and £223 respectively. Now you can use 25,000 miles to upgrade a WT+ ticket to Club World on any of the following places.

Anywhere in the US, South Africa, Dubai, Canada

Surely the best value for money, especially bearing in mind that taxes take up a huge chunk on European flights

Ah, you've been unbanned! Yeah, taxes are pretty steep. What I can't work out why is, why are BA taxes more than U2 taxes when they use the same airports?!?!

Now, Dubai.... would only go on Emirates though. Having experienced both, Emirates wins by far! And as for getting Emirates miles added on to BA Exec Club - well, it took 7 months and dozens of emails, telephone calls, and letters. The day after I whinged here on a.net they finally got credited! Coincidence?

Cheers

I am fed up with my BA card as well, what's the best alternative to save mileage when flying on OneWorld airlines usually on fairly cheap economy tickets. I have the Iberia pass as well and they have points but it also doesn't seem to lead anywhere. SkyTeam and Star Alliance seem so much more generous !

All the OW FF programmes seem to revolve more attracting key revenue passengers. Even to the extent that in the BA programme you have to take a flexible economy or above ticket to join. It makes a lot of business sense though (especially when many airlines are hard up). Spend time working with your key revenue passengers and avoid all the admin costs associated with keeping millions of one time per year leisure passengers in your FF programme.

Thanks for the ideas. Yes SJU, I'll probably be doing the ERJ-145 from BRS to MUC. I've only been on one of those 145s once. Then there's Christmas markets, German beer...!
