Most "exaggerated' Airline Name Ever

Sat Nov 27, 2004 1:40 am

What airlines in your opinion, have the most exaggerated and over-inflated name, suggesting that they are a mega-corp, while they really are a small player?

Here is my example

British World Airlines

Although they operated a 757 towards their veryend, they mainly operated 1-11s and ATP on regional charters. Their former name Britsh Air Ferries was more suitable.

At the bus station, buses stop. At the train station, trains stop. At my desk, I have a work station.

Northwest Orient!

Trans World Airlines (I think TWA had a longer name before cutting it short to Trans World)

Anyone remember Continental Lite? great exaggeration!

TWA's old name was Transcontinental & Western, September11.

I think the award goes to Texas International.

How about Indonesian Airlines, yet they are not the flag carrier, which is Garuda Indonesia. To me, that's a bit of an exaggeration - locally.

Aerolineas Internacionales of Mexico ! I liked their old noisy rickety 727s and had great flights on them, Mexico-Aguascalientes on a 727-100 and Hermosillo-Tijuana on a 727-200.

Even while they DID have a proper website unlike Aerocalifornia or Aviacsa they felt like a mom and pop outlet, imagine your redneck uncle who starts a local bus service with some old overpainted schoolbuses, but then in the air. So the Internacionales in its name was a bit pretentious, their aircraft never left the country.

Other runner up points go to fairly small airlines like European, TEA (Trans European) or World Airways, trying to suggest they are at least in the same league as Pan Am or Lufthansa.

nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?
