Most Planes Of Same Company In Foriegn Airport

Sun Nov 28, 2004 1:13 am

I was wondering where you will find the most number of planes of the same airlines in a forign airport ...

AA at LHR?
QF at LAX?
AF at YUL?
NW at AMS?
IB at MIA?

FR at STN? I would say that is the biggest.
or BA at JFK?
I dont think AF would ever have more than 2 planes on the ground at the same time in YUL but maybe i am wrong...

I think the top contenders would be (upwards of 7-8 planes at one time)
1,AA or UA in LHR
2,AA or NW in NRT

You would find alot of situations with 3-4 planes of an airline at a foreign airport, most of the cases you have pointed out would fall in that category in addition to EK @ SIN, BA @ JFK, PK @ MAN, QF @ SIN that also come to mind. I would imagine there would be atleast a couple of combinations in the Far East that would lie in the upwards of "7-8 plane category" as well.

Interesting topic i must say.

IB at MIA?

Definitely not. Remember that their hub in MIA closed a while ago.

But in the same zone and in a smaller scale, I would go for Avianca in MIA. This upcoming season there will be days on which AV will operate up to 6 flights a day to MIA (Normally 4 or 5) and all in pretty similar schedules.

Maybe TACA could be a contender in MIA as well.

It has got to be Ryanair at STN.

You also get a fair few BA at JFK.

DHL at EMA, QF and SAA at LHR perhaps. Most of the holiday airports around the med on changeover days as well, I have seen anything up to 8 aircraft from the same airline on the ground at any one time in places.

As mentioned earlier, FR must be the winner given that they base something like 30-odd 738's at STN.

Another one, not previously mentioned would be easyJet at AMS.

Try QF at AKL or NZ at SYD. That says alot as well. Also, QF's presence at SIN is quite big as well

During the years of the IB Mini Hub at MIA (Ended Sept 2004) we would have:

4 to 5 A319's in full IB paint scheme along with a 742/743 of IB. for the afternoon flight and again at midnight along with a A343 or A346 of IB.

Right now, I think the following have a large presence at MIA as foreign carriers:

- BA (up to 3 744's on the same day/select days during the winter season)
- LAN (763 flights heading to Chile and other points in South America)
- Bahamasair (daily air bridges between the Bahamas and Miami using 732 and Dash 8-300's)
- Cayman Airways (732's and 733's coming in at least 3x day from the Caymans)
- Avianca (many daily flights to Bogota and other points in Colombia; using 762's, MD83's and 752's)
- Grupo TACA (many flights heading to different points in Central America and Peru all in A319's)
-

Landing in MIA yesturday I saw 4 or 5 TACA A319s and three Aviancas planes at the gate. It made MIA look like a TACA hub. Also saw one taxing. It was great. I got to say AA at LHR.
And NW at NRT and maybe even NW at AMS too.

NZ could be at SYD, MEL or LAX where 3 aircraft together is common, LAX I think can get 4 together 3 744's and 1 763.

QF could be AKL with 3 733's domestic NZ based though we hardly ever get 2 747's together now 3 used to be common back when they flew to EZE, then the other went to SYD and LAX. 6 or 7 QF aircraft together though is still not unheard of.

SIN would probably be top for QF though with arrivals from ADL/DRW, BNE, MEL, PER and SYD then a FRA and LHR arrival in the evening aswell.

Hey

my vote goes for BA at JFK and AF at JFK
as well as Aer Lingus
and NWA at AMS.

Its like being at LHR, when your at JFK, so many AA 777s,BA 777s,747s,767s and with VS A346,747s!!

As for QF, I'm very certain that SIN has more QF flights than LAX. AKL might be close to or more than SIN, but QF New Zealand is operated by Jetconnect, a NZ-registered airline. Still a local New Zealand airline despite having full QF livery.

Can somebody come up with at least some figures of daily departures/arrivals for the airport/airlines that you just mentioned? Claiming "AA at LHR" is more than "NW at AMS" doesn't carry any weight unless you have some rough numbers.

NW at NRT and AMS certainly has to be up there along with UA at NRT. UA at LHR is also as big or bigger than AA traffic at LHR. To make a long story short, the three best airports to look at to answer this question (if you are living in the U.S.), would have to be at AMS, NRT, and LHR.

Keno,

I'm merging figures from two websites here, so the results may be slightly off, but there are around 40 foreign Ryanair aircaft based at Stansted, based on 74 aircraft of which around 61% are based at STN.

If anybody can correct/confirm these figures I'd appreciate it!

UK airline "Air UK/KLM uk" in AMS, The Netherlands (before they became part of KLM Cityhopper).
They operated 75+ flights a day I figure...

As previously mentioned, I think FR at STN wins the prize.

I think AB at PMI (If it is not considered German territory yet lol) would appear in the list at some point.

VS at MCO maybe? From what I've read they can have up to four 747s there at a time.  Smile
