Who Likes LH Eco?

Mon Nov 29, 2004 3:52 am

Hey fellow anetters,

i am curious to know if there is anybody round here who likes Lufthansas Coach Product.

I mean its terrible. Almost no space for your legs (i am 1,92 m tall), i almost need two seats just to be able to put my feet somewhere, they have no IFE, Service loyal but a bit poor (nothing special) and everytime i search for fares they have the highest.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

cheers

You can always have a look at MrNiji's trip report...

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/51948/

... the comments there speak for themselves.

For me, the seat pitch ruins everything - true, LH isn't anywhere close to being at an good level on any count, but the pitch is simply the worst part for me: I couldn't care less for PTVs - I don't mind them if they're there, but I don't miss them if they're not... the food they serve is usually reasonably decent, though certainly nothing to write home about... the service is usually efficient and, in rare cases, even friendly.

All those points could be applied to several airlines - but that combined with the really miserable seat pitch, as well as the fact that LH is usually one of the, if not the, most expensive airlines to chose from, it's no question why I try to avoid them whenever possible.

At the level of seat pitch that LH has, every single extra centimeter available would be a plus - which is probably why I feel hugely more comfortable on airlines that offer just a bit more pitch.

Ive flown GVA-FRA-YVR and back on LH in eco (once in business). Beforehand i heard all the rumours of how bad the service is, no IFE etc.etc. so I boarded the plane expecting to have a really bad flight. In the end, it was most enjoyable, no complaints whatsoever! Exactly what i expected for an Eco seat, which i happened to get for 200sfrs cheaper than another carrier.

Well I know many people from switzerland who tell me that for their expense LH is often the cheapest way. anybody knows why?

But for us germans LH is usually one of the most expensive carriers around.....

why? Thanks for the answers so far

I went with LH to Hong Kong and I was really not very impressed. The seat pitch was awful, no PTV, awful food and a Purser with a really annoying high pitched voice that was imposed on everybody as she seemed unable to get off the PA system.

I don't mind if airlines reduce legroom but add a good PTV system. BA, for example only give 31inch pitch but they have an excellent entertainment system which compensates for the poor legroom. Lufthansa however, has awful legroom and no PTV.

I have flown LH several times, BSL-FRA-BOS-FRA-BSL and just recently BSL-FRA-OSL-FRA-BSL on the CRJ-700, A-340 and A-320 and must say that I enjoyed the flights.

I am quite tall but had no problem with my legs to stretch (I even don't have a problem in easyJet's 156 pax A-319).

On the intra-Europe flights they were offering sandwiches, cakes and drinks, even on the 35 minutes flight from FRA to BSL. On the Oslo flights they even offered a second sandwich and drinks.

Hello all,

I have 2 things to say. First LH service was better a few years ago. Even Lufthansa tries to save money on the services.
But 2nd they still offer pretty good service. They still offer a meal service on the european flights. I.e. Swiss has cut this service completly and SAS is supposed to do so. As for the seat pitch they are still pretty good. Just remember it's still econmomy. And all airlines have pretty similar configurations.

Funny you should talk about this topic. I arrived back to EDI with LH yesterday and totally agree about the comment on legroom. I had 55b (2nd last row on the 747) and the lack of legroom was very noticeable. They had more legroom on the AVRO85.
Food was very very ordinary and there was no Private TV's or even a large screen on the back of the bulkhead. Instead you had a small tv in each aisle.
Audio entertainment was dismal and they only showed 1 movie for the entire flight.

However, saying this, their flights to the states from the UK are ALWAYS the cheapest while BA's are always the most expensive. Why discount to an audience you already have?

On a good note, the FA's were attentive, friendly and overall brilliant. Their hospitality makes up for the lack of entertainment and distracts you from the legroom situation.

I would fly with LH again, but wouldn;t choose them over say SQ or AA.

LH were a great airline 15 years ago, unfortunately they haven;t updated anything since.

Within Europe: Good seatpitch and good service, even on short flights a sandwich and drinks are offered.

Long-Haul: A poor seatpitch, however a clean cabin, and on 744 aircraft there is a open-bar service with unlimited drinks/snacks in Eco class.

I really like it. Most of the time I use biz (I get paid for that), but don't see any problem with Eco. All airlines are trying to reduce costs, and everybody knows that.

If im not mistaken, and please correct me if so LHs seat pitch is comparable to many airlines around the globe including but not limited to:
Air France
British Airways
Cathay Pacific
KLM
Lauda
Qantas
Singapore Airlines
Swiss
United
Virgin Atlantic

I don't mind if airlines reduce legroom but add a good PTV system. BA, for example only give 31inch pitch but they have an excellent entertainment system which compensates for the poor legroom. Lufthansa however, has awful legroom and no PTV.

Couldnt agree more B747-4U3, most of the airlines mentioned above have a decent IFE. However LH does not, they really need to introduce some decent IFE to compensate for the legroom because there is no way that they will be increasing the legroom - thats for sure!

I don`t have problems with LHs econ class. As stated above, it`s economy. Ok, they don`t have PTV, but I don`t necessarily need one...
Food is ok, seat pitch could be better but the FAs most of the time have been friendly and professional.
Another point is safety, and I feel safe on LH flights which for me is an important point.

I think asking 'Do you like LH Eco?' is smiliar to 'Do you want me to clear your bank accounts and spend it?', 'Wanna go down town and smash cop cars with a baseball bat?' or 'Need xtra peni$ length?XXX'

"Me for example. as i cannot always afford business i also like to travel in eco. at least it is flying, right?"
Seen from this point of view I agree. But then I have to say that I like LHs econ because I never had bad experiences on all the flights I did with them, so that I was able to enjoy the flight. As well could I on United, Air France, Lauda Air, UsAir(ways) and others in econ. I only prefer an econ product of an airline over another...
But what I really "like" is to fly in Business or First...I think it`s just a matter of perspective.

@BREmer
I think you just dont understand the meaning of the question or this forum at all. sorry, but what you stated is everything else but nothing for this subject. and the comparisons tom this question are just xxxxxxxxxx.
it is okay if you like LH are are a fan but then please tell me in the right words.

@hirnle
well i have to agree with you.
just one difference: i can only enjoy flights when i know where to put my legs (especially longhaul) and with LH its just not the case for me.
i really enjoy flights when travelling comfortable. and there are Y classes around (see above) where one can do that quite easily. But for sure i love flying business and first. such a great experience.

This week I flew LH eco for the first time LHR-FRA-BCN and return. I only chose them because they offered the cheapest fare, but was very impressed with their service onboard, polite FAs and good overall service. One thing that I don't understand about LH though is why they don't like third parties paying for tickets and the problems it causes at check in. I'm under 18 so had to get a parent to pay for my tickets, I don't know of any other airlines with this policy? I'm nearly 6ft but have no complaints about legroom and I prefer the upright seats, found them much more supportive, but that could just be me.

@Sonyericsson,
our points are nearer together than apart. I´m 1,85m and I know that there are carriers out there that have a much better seat pitch than LH does. But on a long flight (I`m speaking of long haul only because on short hops I don`t really care about seat pitch) my bones hurt anyway in econ. Those two to six inches more don´t make that much of a difference to me on a 12h nonstop. Of course this point of few is not objective, but for a really comfortable flight I have to take at least business even if there are airlines (that you stated partly above) that have pretty nice econ.

Regards
