Chatty Pilots

Tue Nov 30, 2004 7:01 am

Yesterday I flew US1461 DCA-CLT and our pilot loved to talk! The usual stuff "welcome aboard" "thanks for flying US" etc... but he also pointed out landmarks, what runway we'd be on leaving DCA- but then announced that it had changed and told us the new runway, that "first officer (so and so) would be at the controls today", gave us the CLT weather more than a couple of times!, and was overall very friendly. What's the chattiest pilot stories you have?

Had one yesterday on my LAX-ORD flight on an AA 763. He had a lot to say. but was never annoying with it...he even told us that we'd be arriving in ORD 25min. early after leaving LAX 20min. late, due to STRONG fact, our ground speed was over 700mph according to him...pretty cool if you ask me!

Had one once going to LGA. Told us are route and everything weather and what direction we would come into LGA.
Also yesturday had a FA that told us that we arrived in MIA 30 minutes early so next time we are late remember about this time. He got a few laughs for that.
If I ever make it to the airlines and I am the Captain I am sure to talk alot. Runways who is the PF route weather landing runway. Maybe even how many hours the flight crew has!

Just last month onboard a DL MD88 from BOS-ATL. Had about an hour of light chop so he was constantly giving us weather updates along the way. Previously my most talkative pilot was one who gave us constant updates of the NFC championship game on a CO 733 EWR-JAX back in Jan 03.

On a Song flight in July 2003 from FLL-BOS the captain was very chatty. He gave a long description of the route and weather we would encounter on the flight. 3/4 of the way to BOS, just as I fell asleep, he started giving the history of Boston and did about 5 trivia questions about the city. Just as I fell back asleep a few minutes later he gave the answers to the trivia questions along with some very long explanations.

I had never heard a pilot talk so much. Normally wouldn't mind, but it was a little frustrating being woken up a few times when I was really tired.

Thanks for the responses! I was just curious about this, as I've flown a lot and he was the most talkative pilot I had ever had. On top of that the FAs did some updates, connecting gate info, etc... so for a flight of about an hour, the PA got a lot of use!

One some routes i presume that it kills the boredom a bit for the pilots .
Hay wouldn't it be cool if we can talk to the pilots.
i know it is a bit far fetched but would be cool if passengers can ask pilots questions.?

Years ago we were on a flight MIA-CCS, the pilot's nickname was Superman. So he pointed out landmarks like the planet Krypton...
