"Your Presidential Fleet" - (fantasy)

Wed Dec 01, 2004 10:56 am

OK, here's a new one. (maybe) If you were the president/leader of your country, and you could chose your own fleet, what would you chose?

Well, if I was President of the United States, this would be "my" fleet; (2 of each of course)  Big grinThey would all have the "official" Air Force One livery.

1 - 747-400ER. Used for high profile trips within the U.S. and International flights. Free space above the main deck would be used for crew rest areas and possible location of avionics and secret equipment. That and the thing would just look awesome!  Big thumbs up

http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/search/photo_search.php?id=00003006

2 - 767-200ER. Used for flights within the U.S. and lower profile International flights. Also, the 767 would be equipped for in flight refueling and have the same top secret communications equipment for emergency situations.

3 - 717-200. Used for the short hops to Camp David and so forth. Would have trans continental range just in case.

Keep in mind that this is just for fun, so lets hear your choices for your country!  Big thumbs up

Most likely a Piper Cherokee, as the Norwegian government wouldn't help finance anything larger...  Smile

B747-400ER, with all the gizmos, for all the reasons mentioned above.

B767-300ER, ditto . . . although I like the 757 better a) it's out of production and b) it's a narrow body.

EMB-190 for short hops. Embraer has some great a/c

Well I'm just being realistic.  Smile Although in that case, I should also consider that we don't even have a president in this country. The King however uses a DA-20 Jet Falcon on his short trips, and comercial transport on his longer flights abroad.  Smile

And when he visited my local airport a few years back, it wasn't exactly Air Force one... http://www1.airpics.com/showimg.php?imgid=20236

For international, transoceanic flights, a 747-400.

For international flights to Mexico, Canada and South America, a 777-200.

For domestic flights (inside US), a 737-800 (w/winglets).

For personal use, a Bombardier BD-700 Global Challenger (probably my favorite corporate/executive jet).
Long live the RJ!

For ultra-long haul flights, an A380. Fitted with everything from Suites to an "entertainment" room (computers, big screen TV's and etc...) to a racquet ball court and a Gym.  Nuts

And a 7E7-9 for long haul. Fitted with the same as above, except the "fitness center"  Big thumbs up

And a EMB-195 for short hops. Fitted with First class seats and a shower.

For "emergency" meetings and the like... an F-14 Big grin

How would your aircraft be? Am I going too far?  Nuts

Ooo, just thought of another one.

A Bell 609 tiltrotor to replace Marine One. For those shorter missions listed by Delta767300ER for his Lear 35A.

I feel the need to explain my choice for the 767-200 for domestic missions. The 747 a big enough for a good sized conference table. True there is room and a 757 or 737, but there would be room for a bigger one on the 767. Also, it would be able to carry more passengers for press, cabinet members, VIP's and so forth. It could also have good airfield performance with the lighter loads that it "normally" encounters.

Now then, after further consideration, I have made a change. My third choice would be a BBJ instead of a 717. Why? Well, In case there would be the necessity of carrying extra people further distances, the 717 may not be able to carry them as far if the situation need be. The BBJ could also get into the same smaller airfields the 717 could with a lighter payload.

OK, I think that'll do it.  Big thumbs up

As a president I would wanted to be re-elected, so a Bombardier Global Express would easily do the job for me. Although it is the most expensive exec-jet out there, it has a rather short fuselage and therefore would appear cheaper than the AF1/A310/747/380/319/BBJ to the public eye . If any entourage (press & staff) had to travel with me, ad-hoc chartering a 757/767 or something similar for them would be enough and cheaper IMO.

Well, if I ever should become President of the UK, if such an awful thing should ever happen, I'd have to have the following;

For longer overseas trips and as my flagship jet would be the MD11, with a DC10 for in flight refueling and to carry the press around. (Backup being the trusty VC10)  Big grin

Trips over to Europe would be made in an A321, could make do with the A319 but would need room again for some of the press.

Within the UK, well I'd upgrade the current BAe146-100 with a couple of RJ70's with full exec interior, so I could land at smaller airfields, and the press, they can lump it! Big thumbs up

When I become President of the United States of Europe, I will have the following fleet:

1 x Concorde - for transatlantic travel (basically just to show off to the Americans...). I would find a way of getting it back into service

2 x A380 with refuel capability - similar to Air Force One, but larger

2 x A345 if we can't get refuel capability

2 x A321 for short operations or for my VP

2 x CR7 for other government members
cabin crew: doors to automatic and cross-check...

B) Airbus A321 for regional flights.

C) Airbus A319/318 for domestic flights.

Since Canada is so gung-ho on Airbus,

A332 for long domestic and continental (US, Mexico, Carribean)
A345 for international flights
A318 for short flights.

Chances of getting a 380 is virtually zero unless Canada's economy and population doubles over the next 2 decades.

Dan2002's choices just probably created a massive deficit for Canada anyways!  Laugh out loud

Anyway, I actually like the A340-500 for a long haul choice. Not a huge aircraft but not massive like an A380 would be. Definitely has the legs.

But I'd still have the 747-400ER for my flagship. The 767-200 for domestic routes and I am going back to my original selection of the 717-200 for short hops.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.............. what's a billionaire President to do?  Laugh out loud
