Although I am not sure what DBC means....BUT back in August of 2003 returning from SCL (via LIM) to LAX I got REALLY sick on the SCL-LIM leg. That was due to a combination of lack of sleep and too much partying only a few hours before departing. I REALLY wanted to ask we could land somewhere but I decided that it would keep me LONGER away from HOME and would probably cost the airline $$$$ and make me look like an a$$ so I decided to wait out the sickness. Basically, we landed in LIM, I ran off the plane and got some medicine at the duty-free....next thing I knew, we were already on approach to LAX  Smile

DBC=Denied Boarding Compensation??? Dirty Blonde Coeds???

I passed out on a flight from JED-NYC when on the 2nd floor of a 747-300. I stood up and just remember waking up later in the aisle. They did not divert the flight for me.

It is minor, but in Honduras, SOSA usually flies from San Pedro Sula to Utila with a stop in La Ceiba. However, when we were in the air, I talked with the pilot and told him the whole plane was heading for Utila so we went there first. I did not ask for this, but when I was in the Galapagos Islands several years ago, we were close to another major island with an airport so we talked the airline into coming to pick us up at that island instead of the other one we were supposed to leave from. The aircraft was an A 320 and was on the ground just long enought to pick us up and then left. I think the airline was TAESA but I could be really off....Too bad is not that easy on the majors..Hey, that looks like a nice place to land, let's go there Big grin!

Yeah, i was fying Newcstle (UK) to Orlando Sanford (FL) on a Spanair 767, and we diverted to an Air Force base in Canada, close to the border. It wasn't me, but there was a guy who was seariously ill but was able to walk of the A/C in to the Main terminal. It was annoying, he delayed us about 2 hours.

I was on a flight that hit CAT. Broken Leg. Broken Ankle. Entire cabin crew -- and just about everyone w/o a lap belt on -- hit the bins or the roof. Lots of injuries. Lots of flight time left. No diversion. EMTs did meet the flight at the gate in droves.

Funny, since no one was critically injured, but some poor soul was in the LAV and got really torn up. I had my belt on and laughed it off. Worst CAT I have EVER hit before or after.

Not quite sure if this is what you mean, but when I was denied boarding to the twice-daily MH KUL-HKT flight, I asked if there was an alternative, like via SIN or BKK. There was, via BKK - but didn't really arrive much earlier than the 2nd flight. So they would have given it me, if I wanted it. But the choice of a 5* KUL airport hotel for the day (as compensation) plus biz class upgrade and $$$, or BKK airport for a few hours (no compensation), the choice was easy!

Well... I don't think this really counts, but twice I have asked to be rerouted to an alternative destination.

I was supposed to fly ABQ-PIT-LGA in 1994, but asked to reticket a day earlier. USAir (at the time) told me they couldn't get me on a flight to LGA so I was reticketed PIT-HPN. It cost me the $50 change fee (cheap compared to today's fees.)

In 2000 I was supposed to fly CLE-ABE on Continental Express but there were severe thunderstorms in the area. All of the non-jet flights and most of the RJ flights were cancelled for destinations east of PIT. While standing in line waiting to be reticketed, I was talking with a woman who said she was headed to BOS and didn't really want to be rerouted to PVD. We discussed it and saw that the MHT flight was still scheduled... which brought the idea to my mind that I should try for the PHL flight. I was reticketed to PHL, and although it wasn't DBC, I consider it a fine upgrade from a 1h45m Beech 1900 flight to a 1h B735 flight!

The best I've gotten in changing my flight was when my CLE-CLT portion of CLE-CLT-TPA was cancelled. I was rebooked CLE-PIT-TPA and the only remaining seats on the PIT-TPA flight were in first class. I got seat 1C and had my pick of the seats on a DH-8 to PIT (nice, because I could stretch out across two.)

Been on one diversion: 2002 FRA-DFW AA 772. Some lady claimed she was having a heart attack over London...we flew out to the Atlantic and made a few turns to dump fuel and landed in Glasgow. I'm sure that cost AA a pretty penny. Were on the ground for 4 hours, due to the fact that AA/Glasgow officials started a huge security sweep because the woman's story got fishey.

OK we really need to find out what Rw774477 is talking about. How do you ask an airline to interupt an enroute flight to land at a different airport and then ask to be paid Denied Boarding if your already on the plane? Does diversion mean to the writer what we think it is?

He probably means rerouting at check-in, and VDBC.

Oh, so you mean volunteering to be bumped off a flight, in order to go via a different route, and get compensation for doing so? I guess that would only work on overbooked flights where there wasn't a second flight later on.

what he is talking about is asking for a FIM (Flight Interuption Manifest) to get an original routing changed for no fee.

that is not DBC, so I think he is confused on the terminology.

I was supposed to go EWR-CVG-BNA when the last hurricane hit and was able to change it to LGA-MCO-BNA and got to fly on Song! that was a cool re-route and I got home 3 hours earlier than I would have plus many extra FF.

One time on a non-rev HP back in the day (1993) I was supposed to go BOS-CMH but the A320 had mx issues and being a poor college student I didn't have $$ for a hotel in BOS (I was doig a day trip). I convinced the agent to FIM me BOS-PHX (via LAS) on a 757 then PHX-CMH on an A320. I took me 15 hours to go BOS-CMH, but it was free  Smile.

I don't think that I would ever ask for a flight to be diverted - might end up arrested, or worse, chewing some lead from an air marshal's bullet...
