Ever Have A Rude FA?

Mon Dec 13, 2004 1:11 am

I'm sure a lot of you out there have had a rude FA on a flight at sometime or another so this shouldn't be hard. Tell us the details, how was the FA rude, what airline, etc...

For me it was the summer of 2003 on an American Eagle flight from DFW to CLL on a Saab 340 turbo prop. The flight attendant on the flight came over the intercom and told everybody that the flight was to heavy because of the baggage and that they were looking for volunteers to have their baggage taken of and to follow them the next day. A blind black lady began to walk up to the front to tell the FA that they could. When she gets up their, she doesn't even say a word before the white female FA begins to yell and holler at the woman to sit down because the flight was about to depart. Truth is the flight stairs were still down and the engines hadn't even started to spin yet. A few male passengers walked up to the front and helped the lady back to her seat while another one began to chew out the FA for handling the situation the way she did. The flight was 10 minutes late taking off because they had to replace the FA with another person.

what does the color of anyone's skin have to do with the rudeness of the F/A?

Why be so negative? Why not start a thread about the majority of flights where there are great FAs? Ever had a great FA? Usually. Keep a proper perspective.

BTW....the moderators will likely move this thread to Polls and Preferences, where it belongs. has many forums. It has spell check and search functions. Use them before posting!

Here's a positive one!

This took place just after TW bought up OZ. I was on a TW flight from STL-HOU and there was this male F/A that was the HAPPIEST person I had ever seen! You certainly could tell he TRULY enjoyed his job! When he got to my row to ask me what I would like to drink, I told him that he had the most gleeful and positive attitude I had ever seen on a F/A in my entire life. His response "Oh, I am so happy because I still have a job!" Turns out he was ex-OZ. To this day, I haven't met anyone quite like him. I hope he got on with another airline somewhere.

I've never had a rude FA. Then again, I've found that a smile and a simple "thank you" goes a long way. They don't have an easy job and way too much is expected of them. I'm happy enough to be on an aircraft bigger than a cessna as it is. To top it off, it usually gets me a full can of soda  Big thumbs up

I had one once on a NW flight from AMS to EWR. She was absolutly horrible.
I don't think she had gotten laid for a while before she entered that plane.

I was jumpseating on a US Air FLight. After talking to the Captain, I was told to ask the first flight attendant where she wanted me to sit. She was quite annoyed and said, " Yes, go all the way to the back of the aircraft, turn right, and go out that door. Thats where I want you to sit". Being that I was jumpseating I didn't say anything in response. Finally she said, "Just sit anywhere but I CAN'T promise I'll have a meal for you."

I have never forgotten that episode and had I been having a bad day I probably would have said something to the Captain when deplaning.

Yes, it was on SQ 28* from SIN-CHC on a 343. But hey, who doesn't have rude FAs now and then.

My bad FA experiences where both on TWA. One going from JFK-MXP and the other going from JFK-SJU.

The one on my flight to MXP, was very rude, and refused to give my napkins to clean up a soda I had spilled, also, my dad went to sit in another empty window seat on the plane, and she went crazy and kicked him out of the seat, and threatinded him of throwing him off the plane.

On my TWA flight to SJU long story:
We arrived at T5 at JFK, four hours before are flight to JFK,(we meaning me,mom,dad,and2 sisters) the check in lines where so long that they where going out the doors, and near the entrance on T4!! So while where waiting, out check in closes for are flight! one flight missed, we wait for another four hours, not even close to the check in line, another plane leaves! We finally get there, after eight hours of waiting in the check in line!! I mean they did not even go around, like the other airlines asking if anyone was on flight such and such about to leave. When we got to the gate my parents exploded with rage, at the poor gate agent. My sisters and I got so embaressed, and just walked away pretending we did not know them. The reason we where going to SJU, was becuase of my great grandmothers 100th b/day party, so we had to get there. So finally the put us up in a hottle and sent us out on the early flight, so we get up and go to the airport, and the lines are still so long! so we end up missing the flight! we get to the check in gate with enough time for the second flight, my parents where so anygry! and the stupid gate angent would not let us on the second flight becuase we where not on it! So they demanded to talk to the supservisor. He was very sorry and apolagetec to us and put on first class. So after 24 hours of waiting and missing flights, we finally borded the plane.
Now heres where the flight attendent comes in. I spilt my orange juice on the seat and on me and my sister(clumsy me) and the flight attendent goes crazy and starts screaming and cursing me out! The piliot comes out and apolagizes to me and takes the FA out of the plane! 10 minutes latter he comes back with a new FA. Also on that flight he porformed a treatment to help a 5 year old girl with a horrible ear ache, he was a very nice piliot.

Well we all know how TWA ended up.

a joke about TWA...

How many letters are there in the alphabet?? 26?? no 23, becuase TWA flew away!!

Plenty of indifferent FAs who are doing the basic minimum and that's all. Those I can tolerate, since everybody has a bad day every now and again, and every industry has people there to earn a wage rather than enjoy the job.

But I have had one poor experience. BA flight DEN-LHR a couple of years ago. Business class. I had my PTV out of the armrest while we were descending over South Wales. Although a general announcement had gone out asking for PTVs to be stowed, I asked another FA if I could have it on until the landing announcement was made - I wanted to watch the airshow - to which she readily agreed. Less than a minute later a 2nd FA came along, shouted at me for not having put it away, basically called me a liar for suggesting that the 1st FA had permitted it, and proceeded to slam the PTV back into the armrest, bruising my knee (without apology) as she did so.

For a so-called "business class" flight attendant, I thought that was pretty lousy.

And the best? Virgin Upper Class. Hands down. Special mention to Emirates economy FAs for their superior service to everybody in cattle class.

I can't say that I've ever had a rude F/A...a few that were in a bad mood, but none that were really rude.

One of the greatest F/A's I ever had was on an UA flight from ORD to PIT. We had pushed back, the safety demo was done, then the captain turned the engines off. We were delayed due to weather. For three hours we sat on the tarmac waiting for the skies to clear. One of the F/A was keeping us entertained, telling us jokes, giving us snacks. He probably fed us the entire aft galley, but he was trying to keep his passengers happy. He seemed to make the three hour wait go by quickly.

Once had an "elderly" F/A on the Braathens flight from NCL to SVG a few years back. Not sure if it was a man or woman, (looked like a woman, although not sure) but he/she was certainly in a temper.

Everything from extremely friendly and absolutely helpful to somewhat reserved and distant... yes.

But rude? Even unfriendly? In 327 flights on 43 airlines... No.

Smile - it confuses people!

One of my best experiences had to be back in October on a UA Express (Mesa) flight from IND - ORD. After we loaded the CRJ, the pilot made an announcment that we would be delayed because ORD was closed to arrivals due to bad weather.

The delay ended up being over 90 minutes, all while we sat on a fully loaded CRJ with no airconditioning. I give kudos to the pilots and 2 flight attendants that day for trying their best. They opened the door and the pilot arranged to have us connected to ground airconditioning since we couldn't run the aircraft cooling system without the engines running. The pilot tried to have all the passengers deplaned, but UA ground ops wouldn't let him do it. He finally let us all off, only to have UA ground ops turn us all around as soon as the first of 50 passengers started comming out of the jetway door and into the terminal. (can you imaging if you were in the terminal looking out he window and you see 60 people start streaming down the stairs of a CRJ and up the jetway only to see them all turned around midway and sent back inside).

One FA was telling jokes while the other gave us water. The IND police had to board the aircraft and arrest two passengers for verbally assulting the FA's. It was too bad because the delay was not the fault of the flight crew and they did their best.

Once we were airborn, the flight attendants gave everyone free alcohol. They were racing up and down the aisles trying to mix 60+ cocktails in less than 25 minutes all while we had turbulence all the way to ORD.

The female flight attendant was so chipper that I swore she must have been on drugs or something...
