How Do You Pronounce "Embraer"

Mon Dec 20, 2004 1:45 pm

Searched around and couldn't find this subject - so I'll ask on this forum. How do you pronounce "Embraer".

I always thought it was pretty much phonetic - like 'embrayer' but I've heard FA's pronounce it was a more french style pronunciation - like 'OM-brayer'.

So which is it? Maybe a Portuguese speaker can enlighten us.

I don't know if this is correct, but I always said it like "Em Bree Air or M Bree Air."

I don't know the correct portuguese pronunciation, but the way I pronounce it, in spanish (portuguese's brother language) is EM (like ENron, but with the M)- BRA (like wonderBRA)- ER (like vancouvER).

I hope it is clear  Smile

I pronounce it similarly to Lan_Fanatic, however I pronounce the -er as "air," so verbally it would sound like: M (letter M)-bra (as above)-air.

Not quite sure what the EXACT pronunciation is, but that one works for me.

Hey guys!

It's pronounced EHN-BRAH-AIR ...make the H sound flow like a normal word, not so ahhhhh long.

It stands for Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica, or Brazilian Aeronautics Company.

Hope this helps  Wink/being sarcastic

I think that EM-BRAY-AIR is the correct pronounciation. That's how the prerecorded voice on the COEx safety briefing announces it, and I did a double take the first time I heard it because I always used to say EM-BRAY-ER until I flew with COEx. I even asked the F/A about it and she said that she used to think the same thing until coming to COEx.
