At MIA For Two Hours...what To Do?

Wed Dec 29, 2004 12:13 am

Hi all, I am flying JFK-MIA-LGA for a mileage run and I have about two hours in MIA. Anything of interest to do in the airport?

Thanks

Lots of south American airlines to look at. Kinda poor terminal though, with TSA into each concourse, you might not be able to get to any.

What time are you getting in????

If you come after 1:30pm you will start seeing all the EuroBirds coming in:
Some highlights are multiple BA 744's, VS A346 or 744 (depends on day), AZ 772, AF 744 or A343 (depends on day and time), LH 744 from Frankfurt and A343 from Munich, FINNAIR MD11, Swiss A332, IB 743, LTU A332 or A333, Eurofly A332 (Sat Only)...

At all times of the day you can see many Grupo TACA A319's, Mexicana A320's and A319's. AeroMexico MD-83's and 73NG, Avianca 752, 762 and MD-88, TAM A332, RG MD 11, 763 or 772 (alternate), AR A342 (new livery), plenty of LAN and LAN Cargo 763's, Bahamasair 732 and Dash8-300's...and more

and of course it would not be MIA without seeing alot of Silver Birds...
Plenty of AA 772, 763, 762, 752, 738 and Super 80. As well as a complete MIA based AE ATR 72 Fleet plus ERJ 135's and 140's.

Check out the Restaurant in the top of the Miami Intl Airport Hotel = GREAT VIEWS!

What to do?

Well... if you're flying AA

two hours should be more than enough to run out, grab your bags, re-check in and then get lost finding your gate before making it there last minute amongst long security and the crowds.

HAVE FUN!

haha, thanks.

luckily i am travelling light. i arrive in mia around 10am and depart around 1230pm. so wont have to worry about bags and is there a priority line in the AA terminal at the security check point? i suppose that will make a difference as to how long i can wander around.

thanks for the info everyone!

That's a great time to fly into MIA, just after the morning rush but before the afternoon madhouse. If you don't check-in any luggage, u can probably check out lots of south american carriers like AV, TA, etc and the Delta 764. You won't get to see any of the Euros though, they don't start coming in until around 2 (I think LH is first).

go by the lovely AirTran and Delta terminals! concourses G and H! Seriously, though...I want to say concourse F would be getting an Alitalia arrival near the end and possibly a Luftunsa...but I think that's later in the day. Wish I could help you more. If oyu ahd a few more hours, there are a ton of cool places!

If you need to change concourse, security is too slow, so watch out for that. But if you have the extra time go to any Cuban Restaurant, there are several of them all over.

I would go to the hotel MIA and take the elevator to the 7th floor ( The top floor. I think its the 7th) and have something to drink at the Top of the port restaurant. You'll have a great view of the airside operation.

2 hours is not a lot of time for MIA, I had a 90 minutes connection from an AA to an LX flight a few weeks back (evening, rush hour) but I ended up almost running thru the concourse
I'm not always right but that's no reason to insult me

Do you need to pass through security everytime you change concourses??? Can't you move one concourse to another without going through TSA each time??? I'm going MSN-ORD-MIA-EYW in less than 2 weeks and I need the info also.

A - E are interconnected. I'm not sure about F - H.

If you're flying AA, then no... you don't have to pass through security again, but you'll most likely end up walking a whole lot.

There is a restaurant near 9R/27L that offers spectacular views of aircraft. There are also headphones available at each table so you can listen in to air traffic control. 2 hours is cutting it close but you can conceivably, without delay, make it there and back to the terminal just in the nick of time.

As stated above, 2 hrs at MIA isn't a huge amount of time, especially if your connecting for an international flight. I came home on AA last summer MAD-MIA-IAH-AUS. Immigration will take some time, but I recommend doing some spotting and having some pints at one of the many bars.

Cheers,
