How Would You Like A Classic Airline?

Fri Dec 31, 2004 6:50 am

I have always liked the idea of having a classic airline.  Big thumbs up

The airline would have the Pan American Big grin name and would fly only classic planes: The 727's, 707's, Caravelles  Smile, original 747's, BOAC's, DC 8's, 9's and MD 80's, 90's, VC-10's, etc, etc. The cabins would be all first class and the flight attendants would wear classic uniforms (hat included  Smile ). There would be no in flight entertainment unless there were TV's and a radio connection originally built into the aircraft.

Nothing would be modernized except for safety features and possible mandatory improvements on the flight decks!

I think this would be great!  Big thumbs up

What do you think? Would you want an airline like this? What planes would you use?

Have fun,

I'm not really certain what you believe is a "classic" airline, but the one I'd choose is Braniff. Not that I had any great love for the antics of Harding Lawrence, but I did like the airline's use of script for its livery. I also enjoyed the solid color aircraft.

Braniff did best with the 727 and the BAC 1-11. I'd operate it today with Embraer 170's and Fokker 100's. Staying in a regional carrier mode, I'd operate the 170's on shorter, lower-load service. The F-100's would be used on medium-range flights with higher loads. I'd cover Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas initially.

Lawrence got greedy when De-Regulation went into effect in 1978. He bit off WAY more than he could chew, including purchasing a couple of 747's. He wound up keeping one to use for service to London. Those who attempted to restart Braniff in the 80's and 90's did not appear to have much vision or understanding of the industry. I'd like to see what Herb Kelleher would have done with Braniff if he owned it.
Long live the RJ!

I would choose Trans World Airlines  Big thumbs up  Love

We would have the L-1011s, Boeing 747 Classics (-100 and -200), Boeing 747-400, Boeing 767-200ER, -300ER, Boeing 727-200, Boeing 757-200, DC-9s, McDonnell Douglas MD-80, Boeing 777-200ER and 777-200LR. Our stewardesses would wear the old TWA uniforms of the 1950s, we would offer full meal service on all flights, offer MRTC, and our global network would include transpacific routes to NRT, HKG, Singapore, and Taipei out of ORD, LAX, JFK, and STL. THis transpacific network would be in addition to TWA's services to Europe in the 1980s (LHR routes retained), and TWA's big domestic network. It would be the perfect TWA  Big thumbs up  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Forgot to add more stuff. We would also have service to the Carribean and to South America, particularly Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Santiago, Chile.

Mind would be Orion airways, they were wonderful and I would fly 737-300's in the Easyjet mode! Plus it was a classic livery. I hated Britannia for a while when they absorbed them, now I hate Tui!, see a pattern emerging?
Bring Back Orion Airways, you were the best!
