Sun Jan 09, 2005 7:28 am

Hey I was just wondering if anyone has ever somehow know someone on your flight was an air marshall or maybe you had some suspisions... I've heard a few ways you can tell if someones an airmarshall but not sure how accurate they are..

I think the only way to know would be the passenger manifest, as the marshal would probably have a gun on board. I too have often wondered if there were marshals on my flights, especially the international ones.

But, about seeing or suspecting, I think the point is to blend them in so no one suspects or sees anything.

All I can say is yes they are out there and they are probably more flying than you think. I don't want to give out too much information because of their job and the need to blend in. However, if you are observant, you might be able to pick one out during a flight. I had my suspicions once while non-reving and was correct (verified with the flight crew).

Because of the amount of flying I do, I get upgraded a lot and I used to see them all the time. They were actually quite easy to find. They got on before the general boarding. They had aisle seats in first class. And, they usually left their jackets on.

That profile actually caused the marshalls themselves to complain that they were too easy to peg. For the last few months, I have not been able to pick them out at all. I think they are varying their dress and their MO a lot more now and it is probably for the better. After all, if I could peg them, so could you know who....

Interesting discussion on air marshals on your flights.

You'll know an air marshal if you see one on board....trust me!

I agree Flyabunch, when I picked that one out it was in the beginning of the program. They have gotten better at blending in with the rest of the passengers. As an employee of an Airline, I do get to see the marshals. Some of them you would never be able to ID. Either that or I'm getting older and everyone under 30 is starting to look like high school kids.

I get to see air marshalls all the time. But then again, I work for the airline, so I am privy to the information. I will say that they fly more than you think, fly together in multiples, and look and act just like any other tourist or businessman. At the beginning, they were easier to pick out, but the rules have now been changed in order to make it harder to identify them. Before the flight, there are ways for the flight crew to know who the air marshalls are and where, but unless I am mistaken, it is not loaded onto the manifest to protect the identities of the marshalls.

Ual747-

You are wrong on this one- They are NEVER identified on a crew or passenger manifest even though they carry weapons. Even armed passengers (ie-cops, fbi, etc.) are never identified on ANY manifest, though the crew is privy to the whereabouts of Air Marshalls or Armed PAX....
I do, I don't, whatever.......

Yeah many times...when I was with an airline as a ramp agent. However, i'm not sure if they are supposed to be on passenger/crew manifests. Even airline staff may not be able to identify an Air/Sky Marshall. I guess only crew and airline security personnel are supposed to know.

Being in NZ, I do not see many if any of them. I do not think NZ routes have many of them.
