Who Here Has Not Flown A LCC?

Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:42 pm

I was looking thru some flights i have done recently and i realized i have never flown any of the UK LCC's (Ezy/Ryanair/Go/BMIbaby/Flybe/etc).

The only thing resembling a LCC was Song, but they were better than BA/BMI domestic anyway so i dont think they qualify!

Who else has not flown a LCC???

Neither did I fly with a LCC.

I was surprised as Swiss LCC Helvetic was more expensive to AMS as LX and KL. So I took KLM to the AMS meeting last Spet.

I've been on Ryanair, that was an experience  Smile nice and cheap. No complaints with them. It was like Ronseal, did exactly what it said on the tin hehe.

Anyways, I've decided against flying BMIBaby, and taking BMI from MAN with a short spotting stop at LHR instead for an upcomming trip, as they cost the same  Confused

I believe this belongs in Aviation Polls & Prefs.

Anyway, I haven't flown any LCCs over here, the only ones in the reigon are Menajet and Air Arabia, but I prefer QR, ME or EK over them.

I have not...But only becaue I work for an Airline and can get a ticket on AC much cheaper..But we just got an interline agreement with WJ that is cheaper than AC so I am sure that will change.

Never have, never will do. Cheap airlines are for cheap people, the day I get on a plane at Luton or Stansted is the day I lose all sense of self respect

Ryanb741,
So a student flying with FR for example because it is a much cheaper choice than say BA is now a cheap person with no self respect? I like your style of thinking  Yeah sure

I think you'll find that 75% of Ryanair bashers have never even been near a Ryanair jet... Personally I'd lose all self-respect if I paid BA prices for the same route at similar times, when I could have got an on-time Ryanair flight for half the price and with much better service (yes, I've flown both many a time, plus U2).

I work for BA CitiExpress, so flying a LCC over here isn't really an option. However, I did fly Southwest OAK-SAN-OAK and I found the trip pleasant, efficient and very reasonably priced (no airline discount).

But, if it came to it and I could get to where I wanted to go on a LCC then I would without doubt go - the great god Cash rools KO! ALthough Ryanair would have to work hard to get my money!!

I have flown FR and other low-cost carriers innumberable times. I have 2 degrees - both very good - and am doing a PhD to become a Dr. Am I "cheap" ? Oh, I also shop at Kwiksave, Aldi, Farm Foods...

And your education has what exactly to do with being cheap?

(tuition fees aren't expensive if that is your point....well unless you are a non-UK citizen in which case they are a little more expensive)

Never have, at least so far - but that's probably, because the opportunity has really never presented itself.

By the time I moved away from Hannover, there wasn't a single LCC flying there - now HLX has their second home base there...

For the time I lived in Munich, the only LCC flying there was Easyjet - and I never went to London during that time, so - again - no opportunity.

Now that I live in Frankfurt and need about 30 minutes by train to get to FRA, the price advantage for an LCC operating out of HHN would have to be huge, because I'd have to take a train for about 10 minutes and then switch to a bus for something between 1 1/2 and 2 hours to get there - and while the ride to FRA is included in the ticket that I buy to get to work each month, I'd have to pay for the bus to HHN.

Aside from that, since I work in a wholesale-ticketing/travel-agency, I really don't suffer from a shortage of good fares being offered by airlines flying out of FRA...

So, once again, there's really no opportunity.

Although I have to admit that, purely for the sake of satisfying my curiosity, I probably will, at some point in the future, fly on an LCC.

I at least want to know what I'm missing - and if it's worth missing...

Regards,
Frank

Just a quick post from me, im sure people here would rather pay a lot less and fly a LCC than pay over the top prices to fly a mainline carrier, only difference i see is a feed onboard, take this for example........

LTN-EDI-LTN on easyJet April 10th returning same day £30.98 inc taxes

LHR-EDI-LHR on BA April 10th returning same day £107.40 inc taxes

hell of a lot for sandwich and a dodgey cold cup of tea, i know where my money will be going!!

Actually I have flown an LCC......a couple of years ago BA was named best low cost carrier in Europe  Laugh out loud

EZYAirbus, for some us flying on cheap BA tickets does yield extra benefits....C class check-in (although self-service is preferable), lounge access, BA miles etc. To be honest though I never fly Euro Traveller so they are wasted on me....

I havent. There are not many LCCs down here. The closest I have got to a LCC is travelling on Air New Zealand Express Class.

Hey, flew FR from HHN to girona, no complants at all.
sont feel like having no self-respect.

please admit, that sepending 10 Euro instead of a 100 is very good.
especially if you have to pay it for your self.
