I forgot:
* Boarding takes hours
* Baggage claim takes hours

(ok, no clue what happened with the change from 707 to 747 - but anyway, great reasons).

The cockpit windows are too small.
(forgetting its a much larger aircraft which makes them appear small).

The cockpit is in between the two decks.

It has no hump. (Boeing might have sued.)

Yes, thats's among the most funny things I've ever read about the A380.

In my mind I see the day of the first flight, the plane accelerates, tries to rotate and - nothing happens, the a/c must break.

Some days later, there is a press conference, the chief engineer admits that the wing is wrongly calulated, and gets directly arrested, like in communism.

This seems how some a.netters imagine the day of the first flight.

It makes me really loughing  Laugh out loud

I LOVE these armchair discussions!

Fine, it looks ugly. Who really cares how it looks, the bottom line is that if it will make $$, the airlines will be happy! As many people have pointed out in MANY posts most flyers/media/dummies etc don't know WHAT they are flying on!

The real issue I see right now is that it's kinda hard to fit the entire aircraft into a camera frame, which SHOULD worry a-netters WORLDWIDE! How are we going to photograph this monster on short finals?

I am sure that once the first few flights are completed and they have some mock loading/unloading runs they'll know more about the limitations. BTW, is there a way folks can volunteer for tests like this? I recall seeing something in the past about the testing of YVR's new terminal involving volunteers.

Oh my god, that image just flashed in my head..

the A380 spools up for departure, screams down the runway, aircraft rotates nose-up at a 10 degree angle and it just stays at that angle while screamin down the runway.. :P

(reminds me of watching heavy 727 takeoffs where you rotate and nothing happens while the plane tries to crawl off the runway).

I think the biggest supposed fault is how will they do ground handling on a plane with 480-555 passengers, loading all the consumables in the plane, and cleaning the plane?

I don't think that will be a problem at SFO because when the new International Terminal was designed and built in the 1990's, the builders closely consulted with Airbus to make sure the gates and the Federal Inspection Service (Customs and Immigration) can handle the load of multiple A388 flights arriving at the same time. Don't be surprised if you see F-WWOW and F-WXXL parked side-by-side at SFO some time in late Fall 2005 to check gate compatibility.  Big thumbs up

Oh yeah, I forgot that Airbus did the A380 just to have a bigger airplane than Boeing.
It was not to get the future orders in place of the 747.

You Europeans are cute when you get angry.

It's fun to watch you use the United States as a "Rally Point" in order to avoid looking in your own closets.

Your becoming more like us every day. Think about that.  Smile

p.s. The 380 will fly just fine. It simply will not meet it's stated performance envelope. Only time will tell if it's an issue.  Smile

Does anyone know which way the pilots will get to the cockpit of the A380, from the top or bottom deck?

Cheers,
Ian.

It would never turn a 'profit' without government subsidies.... The taxes from GKirks sheepherding pay has gone to good use at EADS....

maybe this was said before, but didn't see it...

"Airbus A380, #2, and we have the light twin in sight" :p

having said that though, the B777 is still my favourite current commercial plane  Smile

Europeans are so cute when they get mad.

I think it is obvious that the A380 will fly a little slower and with fewer people than planned due to it being overweight. However, the good news is that they will be able to add bars, casinos (maybe even a nightclub) and extra legroom to fill in the empty space.

Bottom line. Bad execution of a questionable idea, but with unforseen benefits. Congratulations!

Don't forget:

A380 is old technology already, but the 7E7 is really innovative !
Avoid 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y ! They are real sardine cans. (AF/KL for example)

Are talking about ignorant responses we've heard from other memebrs or personal ignorant responses?

Let's see:

  • There is no market
  • ,
  • it's too big
  • ,
  • it's can't fit into all airports
  • ,
  • it won't succeed because it will fly with empty seats
  • ,
  • XXX airline doesn't need it ever,etc.

  • These are some of the ridiculous claims I've read. I really want to yell at these people but I think they think they know better. No they just know what they know and that is it.

Most people do not know about aerodynamics, or marketing, or business. Most of all, it is aparent people do not think ahead.

I go to ERAU, in prescott, AZ. I'm an engineering student and my roommate is a pilot. He travels a lot, in fact for spring break he's going to frankfurt, EUROPE -- he's a friggin baller! But I respect his opinion as useful experience. But like many pilots at this school, he's see the A380 as useless. He said it will fly with empty seats when it goes into service and when I asked what about say 10 years from now? He paused and said maybe, I donno.

He did not think for a second that this plane will succeed later. He acts as if the hype claims that it will succeed now. Look folks, this plane is not some regional piece of shit that fill instantaneously. It's different and so cannot be judged with traditional ideas!

    GET IT!?

The meaning of life is curiosity; we were put on this planet to explore opportunities.
