Its an airplane, if it flies and its on my scheduled flight then yes. Why not?

Why do people say they won't fly on it? I mean the public, not airliners.net Boeing obsessive types.....

I really don't like Airbus and I think the A380 is quite ugly. But there's no way I wouldn't pass up a chance to fly on that thing...

I would wait a year after it starts flying regularly with a major carrier, I wouldn't want to be the guinnie pig...im sure you all remember what happened to that airbus( think it was an A320 of air france) when it took off then did a low fly-by and it couldn't get altitude again even at full power, and it ended up crashing into woods just off the runway, it was filled with passengers. Even though it was years ago, it is sad and I do feel sorry to all who lost loved ones, that was a problem. When a plane is just made, it has flaws, there always is, usually the problem is fixed immediately before something bad happens, just a couple of examples are the problems with the 737 rudder, the DC-10 engines falling off and hydraulic problems...and this may not be a problem but lets not forget a very long time ago(probably before many of us were even born) the spruce goose..flying once, not going very high or far, and never flying again...but anyway, that was a long time ago. I would wait a while before flying on the A380 just so that the flaws(if any) are worked out. Sorry about the long ass paragraph, guess I took this post way too seriously..LOL...but I would definitely like to eventually fly on the A380, after all, it is a major engineering/scientific/manufacturing/aviation breakthrough..this is one for the books...ok ill shut up now

Bullpitt, that statement is complete and utter bullshit! FYI, just because the thing is big, doesnt all the sudden mean that Europe makes the best aircraft.
Hell, its people like you that makes it look like all of Europe is filled with people like you.

I was talking to my wife this morning and she said..."NEVER". I asked why? She said...Don't like being cattle on a 747 don't want to be cattle on an A380. She also said...What if there were was one on a runway and a miscommunication to another coming in for landing. They are fully loaded in a high density config. They crash into each other. That would mean close 1600 people dead. Don't want to get on it. Now if it offered extra room and more pitch, was felt comfortable and in lower config... Maybe.

Personally. I won't have a chance to fly on one for many years, NGO is too small. And I don't really want to fly on one unless I am at the emergency exit and can be the second one out (wife is first). Looks like a liability.

Now if I had a private A380...Sure.

It was an A320 of Air France and the accident occurred at an air show near Mulhouse-Habsheim on 26 June 1988. Of the 136 passengers on board, there were 3 fatalities. The cause of the accident was pilot error. There was nothing wrong with the plane - the flight crew were not familiar with the new technology.

I definitely WILL fly on one as soon as possible, not because I believe Airbus aircraft are the best ones adorning our skies, just because it's a very special plane (even if only due to its sheer size).

BTW, not all of Europe believes Airbus is THE airplane manufacturer. I still get excited about flying on a 747 and I would have been thrilled about flying on one for the first time if I had already been an airplane buff when I first did.  Smile

But currently I fly every month at least 12 hours on B777-200, which is by far my favorite plane. I really would not like to change in near future.

YES, of course. I do agree I might want to wait for them to be out for a year or so in pax use so the initial bugs are worked out, but if BA or another airliner had the best price to go to Europe and it was on a A-380, you bet! It would be better than a narrowbody and besides, it would make one more major aircraft model on - been on 707/727/737-100 to 900, 757, 767, 777's, and A-319's to A-300's as well as DC-8, 9, 10's too.

Nothing is more unenjoyable then flying trans-Atlantic,pacific stuck back in steerage on a 747 with over 300 people, why would I want to do that in the 380 sardine can configuration with over 800 pax stuck in the middle rows of seats next to some non bath taking individuals. Flown on 777 and 767 across the pond and find those much better and comfortable. I am just a poor A&P who cant afford first class

I will change my itinerary to change it to fly on an A380. I have no qualms about it, In fact I want to be on the maiden voyage. If it did go down, what a way to go!!! I'd be one of the names on the list which would be the biggest transport crash since Titanic! maybe I'd be the name selected as the one to have the feature movie by James Cameron based on my last hours...

When the European and US aviation authorities certify it for passenger travel (which I fully expect they will) then I would have no qualm about flying on the A380. I really doubt that either agency would certify a defective plane for passenger flight. After all, isn't that what the test program is supposed to check? there will be plenty of test hours for us to base any flight decisions on. I can't wait to find someplace that I need to go that is using the A380, bring it on!

No...I don't wan't to fly on the damn thing. I can't imagine being cramped with 700 other people.

Well technically speaking, that would make say 400 people on the main deck, and 300 on the upper one.

So tell me what is the difference with a 747 right now?

If you remain on your deck, it's still an average cabin I would think.

Whenever I make a booking, I try to book on smaller planes for practical reasons (faster boarding, less congestion at luggage reclaim, less congestion at immigration, etc.). Given this, the A380 will be at the bottom of my list (behind the B747, and waaaaaay behind the B762).

To answer the question, yes I'd fly on it, but only as a last resort.

I wouldn't go out of my way to choose a flight using A380, but if it ended up being the aircraft operating for my flight, I wouldn't refuse to board. I will try anything once - like the A321, and then decide at that point. I know that I would prefer a B-767 anytime over A380/B777/B747 because of the 2-3-2 seating layout.

I would like to if I heard that they would offer Economy class passengers some more space plus a unique lower deck facility (e.g.: Duty-Free shops).

Does anyone know how SIA would configure their Economy class A/C? I was wishing for seat space criteria that falls between Economy class on the 777 and the Executive Economy on their A345s.

It would be neat if SIA would make the spacing of Y class seats the same as what they're offering on their A340-500s (minus the big IFE screens and the foot rest of course).

What do you think?

Me, too.

I won't go out my way to fly on it; only in 2004 did I fly on a A300 and never yet have I sat in an A330, but if it goes where I want to go at a price I (or my company) can afford, I'd do it.

A more interesting question may be "Would you fly on a Pan Am Mk III Boeing 727?"  Wink/being sarcastic

Then I saw the pictures. Now I am changing my tune. I would fly on one in a heartbeat. But I would have to have a window seat. Or a seat next to the window. And I am not going out of my way to fly one.

It's an aeroplane, what's the big deal? If it's flying where I want to go then I'll go on it. However, the chap who said he'd wait a year after it goes into service might have a point.

Still can't see one coming here though!!

Sure, love to. It won't be any different than a 747 as far as the personal comfort goes. 3-4-3 at 32-33" right? Passengers on two levels means that loading and unloading should be no different from other widebodies, if not a bit easier.

My first post on the A380 ever! Please don't attack me.

yes I would I guess, as long as I only had carryon luggage. Can you imagine the wait not only to plane and de-plane, but then to wait for the bags? I have come in on fully booked 747's and waited over an hour for the bags.

If more airports can get equipped with double ramps it may not be to bad, but most airports like Frankfurt and JFK will have single deck ramps.

Count me out! I'm sticking with the good old B747!

Oh and Airbus say that the A380 is the milestone of aviation. Well I'm sorry, the milestone of aviation in my view will always be Concorde and will always be the best, even though, sadly, it has been taken away from us!

As an airline enthusiast I will definitely try out the A380 more than once. But honestly, as always I will continue to seek B747 flights when available (Boeing... please give us the 747-Adv!). Let's face it... at the end of the day most airlines will simply pack the A380 with as many passengers as possible (keep dreaming about on-board casinos, bars, gym, etc.. not happening!) and would you want to be on a plane with 500+ passengers? Just imagine the lines at immigration (and trust me... it will be a longer wait), baggage carousels, etc. It's a nice idea (A380) and airlines will love it (more pax and revenues especially into limited slots airporrts like LHR), but at the end of the day A380 will be passenger packed good ole' aircrafts with your standard services!
The fun of flying... love it !!!

I'd fly it even if it were just more seats with current seat pitch of the individual carrier. The queues are nothing a Priority baggage label won't be able to fix, even with more business pax. The twin decks will be as soundproofed as a 744, no more or less noisy than any widebody with passengers on. So far the excuses have been feeble for not flying it.. In most cases if it were a Boeing you'd be trying to fly on it as soon as you could.
