Which NWA/Mesaba Aircraft Would You Rather Fly?

Which NWA/Mesaba aircraft would you rather fly for a 2.5 hour trip?

NWA DC-9-30

or

Mesaba CRJ

Thanks for your opinions!

I would take the DC-9 any day of the week over Pinnacles CRJ's. I've flow the CRJ a few times and swore I would never fly them again. I'm 6'2 and had the most uncomfortable time, and that was for only an hour flight.

Note please, the CRJ is a Pinnacle aircraft - Mesaba operates the Avro and the SAAB.

The CRJ is cramped, uncomfortable, really awful on a flight over 300 miles or so -- the SAAB is a turbo prop, slow and noisy but kind of fun. The Mesaba jet (ARJ) is probably one of the most comfortable planes NWA has, in economy as well as first, but my choice is DC-9 - be it a 10, 30, 40 or 50 -- any day of the week, any conditions

I would take the 9. I was starting to go crazy on a CRJ YYZ-DTW. I assume because the seat next to me was occupied. I did MSP-MHT and the CRJ was o.k., but I didn't have a seat mate.

How about putting the XJ Avro seats in a NW DC-9?

The seats in the Avros are a lot more comfortable than what NW uses on its DC-9s and A319/320s. The seats on the now-gone 727 were very comfortable as well.

I totally agree about the Avro seats. That is by far the most comfortable plane that NWA and partners operate. The only thing is that the window seats are pretty much pointless unless your looking straight down. Not much of a view.

The RJ85 is very comfortable -- in both first class and in economy. The DC-9 is also pretty reasonable. The Pinnacle (not Mesaba, but Pinnacle) CRJ is truely awful on a long flight - the seats are just plain not wide enough - if you have no seat partner, it's OK, because you can pull up the center arm rest, but if you have a seat partner, wow -- keep the arm rest down to keep your privacy, but just await discomfort when you try and stand up

I just purchased a ticket on NWA for August from FLL-CAK. Instead of flying Delta for my Skymiles, I chose NWA for the express purpose of playing the Saab 340 from DTW both ways.

So that should answer the question for me....tired of ASA/Comair CRJ-200s, although the CR7's are very nice and comfortable.

"the seats are just plain not wide enough"

I checked seatguru and it said the CRJ had wider seats and more legroom than the DC-9-30

I would rather fly the old Diesel 9 although the CRJ is pretty cool.
