How Much Should I Pay For ATL-NUE In June?

Mon Jan 31, 2005 12:35 pm

I will be flying from ATL to NUE on June 22 to see a friend and will be returning sometime between July 4 and July 10. I am not planning on buying a ticket in the very near future, but I also do not want to wait until the last minute in the hopes of finding a really good deal. Right now, the best price in that date range in $1036 on KLM flying ATL-AMS-NUE. On Delta and Air France, via CDG, I can get about $1060. I understand that those dates are in the high season for travel to Europe and thus a ticket to Europe during that period will be expensive compared to other times of the year. What should I expect to pay though? Last summer, I flew ATL-FRA-NUE on Lufthansa and paid about $890. I'll pay over $1000 if I have to, but that seems a bit more expensive that I think I can get. Thank you for your help.

Hey got something else for you: why dont you fly to MUC and connect by train to NUE. It is fast and cheaper.

ATL to MUC on Iberia and Northwest via ORD and MAD for 858 $
train connectioon is about 80 euro return

you could also go to FRA and connect then to NUE by train. train price should be the same and price is 868 $ for the flight again with IB via ORD and MAD on the way to NUE and return via AMS on Northwest

hope that helps

Thank you for your input! Where did you find that fare? That sounds like a very interesting way to get there and one that I would like to consider, though it's almost as expensive as what I have found and the travel has a lot more hastle to it. One thing I need to consider about trains though is that I'll have a big suitcase and a carry on bag. I would have to get from the airport to a downtown train station and then get another train to Nurnberg. I'm not opposed to doing that, but I am afraid that it would be difficult to make it to either MUC or FRA in time to catch any flights home and I'm not going to stay at a hotel the night before I leave. My final question is about the safety of the trains. I have never been one to worry about pick pockets. I'm careful, but I don't worry about them. However, are the German train stations safe enough that even with a lot of luggage and being tired from an overnight flight, I would not be in great danger of being robbed? That might sound ridiculous, but if I just don't want to make myself a target.

Hello Airplanetire - If you are in the Atlanta area do you by chance listen to Clark Howard, particularly his Friday Flier segments? Might be worth a listen, or even a call. Not a plug, just a suggestion. For those who do not know Clark, he is a consumer reporter for a local ATL TV station and has his own nationally syndicated radio program. He has great info on travel.

I might try to do that. I have taken a look at his website, but there are no fares for the summer posted there yet (I wouldn't expect there to be any at the moment). What time does it come on?

@airplanetire

no worries, trains are really safe. best for you would be connect to the train from FRA to NUE, because FRA has its own trainstation directly at the airport. in munich you would have to go straight into the city centre, which takes about 40 minutes.

flight back to the states departs at 10.40 am, so no problem getting there. there is a train from 5.30 in the morning. take a look at www.bahn.de.

for flight info check: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego there i found your fare. i always use this tool. very reliable!

I really appreciate the suggestions about flying into MUC or FRA and taking a train, but I have decided that it is just not worth the hastle to save maybe $100. I'm staying with a friend and it would be too much on his family to get me to a train station at 5:30 a.m. so I can go home. I'm going to be their house guest for two weeks, so I don't want to make anything difficult for them. Given that, what is a good price to pay to get to NUE. The best price right now is about $1040 on Delta and Swiss via ZRH.

Do you think I can get a cheaper fare than that, or in the summer is that about what I should expect? Sonyericsson, I certainly will enjoy Nurnberg. It's a fabulous city and I can't wait to go back!

i think this will be the price you have to pay. you see, to little airlines fly into NUE, so ther is no big competition, so hardly any special offers.

MUC and FRA often get special offers, due to the big competition there and the large number of direct US-Europe flights.

sad but true
