3 Possible Trips. Your Opinions Reqd.

Mon Feb 07, 2005 4:56 am

I'll have some spare cash in April so am thinking about going on a wee aviation-related trip (probably go in June or July). I am currently thinking about one of the following:

1) Singapore. Flying BG and routing LHR-DAC-BKK-SIN-BKK-DAC-DXB-LHR on DC10s and 310s. Or LHR-DXB-DAC-BKK-DAC-DXB-LHR;

2) Nepal. Flying BG and routing LHR-DAC-KTM-DAC-DXB-LHR, flying DC10s, 310s and F28s. Or LHR-DXB-DAC-KTM-DXB-LHR. Plus add a couple of flights in Nepal, like KTM-Jomson-Pokhara-KTM, on a couple of airlines and aircraft; or

3) Pakistan. Flying LX and EK and routing LHR-ZRH-DXB-KHI-DXB-ZRH-LHR, flying 321, 332s, AR1. Then doing some internal flying, like KHI-ISB-LHE and possibly up in the Himalaya.

Possibly Iran too, for 74L, 727, 707 and AB6 machines.

Now, which would you go on and why? I'm interested in your opinions. Just base it on the airlines and aircraft. I have been to SIN before.

I'd go for a combination of the third one and Iran. Firstly, Iran air has good service and apparently decent IFE and also, they may not be able to fly for much longer, based on America's recent performance, despite what Condaleeza Rice says. Pakistan is such a beautiful country (in the right parts) and the chance to fly up in the himalayas would be amazing.

That's my opinion.

You have to take into consideraton that DC-10 are prolly not going to be around very long as compared to A320-330s......so definetly go with a DC-10 on whichever flight you choose

Thanks. Yeah, I was looking at the DC-10 machines most carefully, especially as I have yet to fly on one. I do think I'll go for the first or second option for that reason. Hmm... well, still 2 months or so to go before I can book anything.

I would go for the trip to Iran by virtue of the different aircraft you could be going on.

707, 727s, old 737s, 747-100, 747-200, 747SP as well as Tu-154s could all be possible if you select carefully.

However a chance to fly a DC-10 is never something easy to say no to.

If you haven't already been on a DC-10 perhaps the BG trip might be preferable. Don't forget that if you want to fly on a DC-10 NW is always an option.

Are you sure you want to venture onboard Biman Bangladesh?  Wow!

I would certainly chose the DC10 with Biman, they won't be around for much longer and the A310 is an extra bonus. However, I would be cautious about going on to Nepal, the current political situation is pretty unstable after the King seized 'absolute' power (despite Maoist rebels controlling most of the country). If you went to SIN instead you could travel to Ho Chin Minh city on Tiger Airways new service.

I've been trying to get hold of Biman now for several weeks but have been having no luck, there is no answer from their central London ticket office, and whenever I get hold of their Heathrow office they are very unhelpful and direct me back to the London office Angry

Hi Dan,

I just remembered that I was meant to reply to your email - but I forgot. Sorry.

I can imagine BG is a bit annoying to get hold of, but I'll have to give it a go in April. If all fails, I can have a day trip to London during which time I can visit their office and book.

I THINK I will go to SIN again.

Cheers!

No problems James, when I am up at LHR next Monday I will have a wonder over to Biman's desk at T3, see if I have any luck asking about flights in person.

I would take the first option.

Perhaps if I have to take a long vocation I also would consider the second option.

I would choose the second one. You fly more or less the same planes + the regional flights. And the scenery must be wonderful.

I'm just jealous you've got the option to go!!!!!!!!

Wherever you choose, make sure you get plenty of pics and have a great time.

Personaly I'd do the second option. DC-10, be a rare bird soon.

Cheers  Big thumbs up
