What's The Longest Trip On A Single Carrier?

Sat Feb 12, 2005 1:43 am

what's the longest trip (in terms of flying time), including connecting flight, on a single carrier's metal. No codeshares.

How about Guangzhou-CDG-PPT on AF? or KUL-AMS-GYE on KL?

Maybe SYD/MEL-LHR-EZE on BA takes the cake.

(and no, I haven't checked these out on web sites to compare)

what else?

How about YYC or YVR-YYZ and then YYZ-DEL non stop..on AC..
I know YYZ to DEL is a 14hr flight, add another 5hrs for YVR-YYZ

I think NZ001/NZ002 would be close, it is the same aircraft as well. It is AKL-LAX-LHR and back which would be close to 24 hours.

BOM-AMS-MSP-HNL-NRT-SIN on NW - 19547mi/31458km  Smile

(Which could be made even longer using different transfer cities in the U.S.)

Even more interesting is to add the requirement ON A SINGLE FLT NO. i.e. single carrier, on their metal, on one flight number.

I assume it's all the QF and BA flights from Oz to LHR: QF1, QF8, etc, BA18... = 18,000 km and 24hrs flying on the same carrier, aircraft and flight number.

Previously, it would have been those round the world flight numbers of BA, QF and Pan Am
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.

The QF and BA flights between LHR & SYD, while long, aren't nearly the longest flights on the same metal. For example:

LHR-SIN-SYD: 10672 mi/17176 km

vs.

Brazil to Japan on RG, GIG-GRU-LAX-NRT: 11817 mi/19018 km

Over 1100 mi/nearly 2000 km longer.

Cheers.  Smile

Top 3 longest route (distance wise) on the same aircraft & same flight number :-

1. NZ: 10393 nm AKL-LAX-LHR
2. RG: 10269 nm GIG-GRU-LAX-NRT
3. JL: 9984 nm NRT-JFK-GRU

KEno,

SYD-LHR is longer than all of those you listed, according to AeroWesty's post.

AeroWesty,

Is your Varig example, same aircraft and flight number?

OzGlobal :
Note my unit of distance - nautical miles. Aerowesty used miles. Top 3 longest routes remain as what I listed above, LHR-SIN-SYD is less than that.

That Varig example GIG-GRU-LAX-NRT is a same-plane, same flight number service. The same goes for NZ & JL.

Quoting KEno (reply 13):
Top 3 longest route (distance wise) on the same aircraft & same flight number :-

and the fourth one would be AI BOM-FRA-LAX with a total distance of 9892mi, same aircraft and flight number.

OzGlobal:

Keno is correct. I was only providing an example of a routing I knew from memory to be longer than LHR-SYD, not trying to establish that GIG-NRT was the longest of all for the same flight number/same metal.

The earlier example I gave of the NW routing, same metal, not necessarily on the same flight number, is the longest for that category.

Cheers.  Smile

P.S. If you haven't been to the Great Circle Mapper site yet, it's quite handy, and you can display the distance in mi/km/nm as you desire.

FRA-LAX-AKL B747-400 NZ
AKL-CHC B737-200 NZ
CHC-DUD ATR72 NZ

I didn't count the hours, but FRA-LAX is about 12hrs, LAX-AKL about 13hrs, AKL-CHC 1hr 20 mins, and CHC-DUD 55mins
plus connecting times....

Another good one was
KOA-HNL-LAX DC10-10 UA
LAX-JFK B767 UA
JFK-LHR B767 UA
LHR-HAM B727 UA
