7,980 Miles For £144

Wed Feb 23, 2005 11:58 pm

I am considering an Asia trip during the summer. I can get the following 8 flights for an amazingly good £144 – including tax: SIN-BKK-KUL-CGK-KUL-BKK-SIN-HKG-SIN (flying AirAsia and Tiger Airways). The total mileage for this trip is about 7,980 – about 2,000 miles further than LON-LAX and LON-NRT. Can anyone combine flights, or even have just one flight, of an equal or further distance for the same or less money?

Tiger Airways is a low-cost airline based at SIN (http://www.tigerairways.com). Air Asia is another Asia-based low-cost airline (http://www.airasia.com).

Sounds suspiciously like a staff travel ID90 fare and getting upgraded there, young Mr Davidson. Not sure that is what Pearson meant. After all, it could be classed as cheating!! Unless of course, you did it as a baby and went in your pushchair some years ago!! Big grin

Have a nice flight wherever you are

So not possible for someone without the miles.

So 7,980 miles for £144 still stands.

Although I haven't actually done it, I did see a holiday advertised on Teletext for £99 inc taxes. It was a flydrive to Florida for 2 weeks. That would be approx 8,600 miles in total. Only snag was that it was leaving the next day.

Of course, being an advertised holiday, it probably didn't exist. I've certainly never managed to buy any at the advertised price. In fact one travel agents I went into, we went through eight advertised holidays (in their window), each of which didn't exist, before I gave up. They were still advertised a week later. Sorry. Rant over.

I see the logic behind your spotting question now!

I once flew with United from Amsterdam to Sydney via LAX for 800 euro including taxes, specials they sometimes have off season (febr-may) although now the taxes will be a bit higher.
With the detour over the US, this comes to about 29.000 miles for the equivalent of 550 GBP, which is about the same price level as your trip.
In the Europe-Australia market, the last few years prices start at this level and might be the ones coming close. Also the NYC-California market starts at about $75 one way and with the cheap dollar two of these sectors (about 3000 miles?) can make up a cheaper trip. Of course Ryanair, Jetsgo and other LCCs sometimes offer almost free tickets but the catch is it will be hard to make a multi itinerary trip with only these fares.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Shouldn't be paying that: you should wait until the 1p fares are available.
