AA First Class Meals - What Are They Like?

Mon Feb 28, 2005 8:09 am

I am flying AA First Class BWI-DFW-BWI on 3/29 returning 4/2. Outbound flight shows 'LUNCH' and return flight shows 'DINNER'. What type of meal can I expect from AA? Will I have a choice of meals? Both flights are on 757's. Thanks in advance.

Click on American. There's over 250 pictures of AA's offerings these days...most are fairly recent.

I flew AA domestic "First Class" a few months ago LAX-ORD. There were two lunch options. I chose the chicken salad sandwich. It was passable I suppose, but not great. The main subjects I have for comparison are QF domestic Business (they don't call it First) class meals. These are light, but good bistro/restaurant quality and served with fine wines and good coffee. BA Club Europe can also be good, but I've read some mixed reviews of late.

Overall, for comparison purposes on domestic flights in Bus/'First' I'd rate QF meals 8/10 and AA 5/10.
When all's said and done, there'll be more said than done.

Pretty good, nothing special. Have had them EWR/JFK-MIA, MIA-LAX and LAX-MIA.

Edited: Only Lunch and Dinner. Never had breakfast.

Had dinner on AA 757 last summer; excellent meal, I think it was chicken primavera with a side salad and apple cheesecake.

MD80 meal (lunch) in Dec. was a chicken salad, not as elaborate as the above dinner, but good nonetheless.

I've heard AA does more on the 757 than the MD80s due to the extra kitchen space. Not sure if that's true or not.

I have flown on AA F class three times: ORD -> BOS, MIA -> BOS and SEA -> BOS. I found the meals on all three flights to be very good, with the highlight being the salmon in the MIA -> BOS leg. Here's the trip report for that one:

Moman... meal service between the MD-80 and 757 are identical. The only variations are length of flight and time of departure, which effect both aircraft.

The lunch offerings these days are: chicken salad sandwich, turkey wrap, grilled chicken salad or turkey croissant sandwich. I don't know which rotation we are currently on, but it is likely to change on your trip since you are leaving in one month and returning in another.

My favorites are the grilled chicken salad and the turkey wrap. Salmon sometimes pops up into the rotation, but it has become less popular the last six months for some reason, so we don't see it as often. If it is served for lunch, it will be with a salad.

The meal will also come with some sort of fruit garnish, either grapes, a strawberry or orange slice and cheese and crackers.

If you happen to be on a flight with a "light lunch" (which are effected by departure time, not length of flight), you are more likely to see a salmon salad there, along with a hot roast beef sandwich, tomato and cheese or mushroom and cheese pizza and chicken fingers with pasta.

If what you are eating isn't a salad, it will be served with a side salad. Dessert is usually Pepperidge Farm Milanos or Brussels cookies, or lemon, apple sauce or walnut shortbread cookies.

Well, having seen a lot of AA's meal options, I would expect a good sandwhich of a bowl of soup and a sand witch. That is what I had on a flight about the same length as yours. Though the portion sizes may be big or small, they offer seconds a lot of times if you ask and they give you more than one roll things like that etc. But expect a nice meal from them.
