How Is SAA`s Business Class

Wed Mar 02, 2005 8:44 pm

I´m planning a trip to South Africa. How is the business class of SAA compared to other major carriers especially LH, and how is SAA`s econ compared to LH`s. As I´m going to fly from Germany the aircraft will be an A346 or A343, perhaps somebody has some experiences with SAA`s Airbies...?

Thanks in advance

I asked this question briefly in another post as I have to go to South Africa on business next month. I suspect the client will fly me on SA.

Apparently the 744s on the LHR-JNB are the only ones currently with flat beds. The rest of the fleet have the older seats in business.

The entire SAA A343 and A346 fleet are fitted with full flatbeds in J-class. Skytrax voted SAA's A346 flatbeds as the best in 2004, defeating both BA and VS in the process.

I haven't got the faintest idea what LH's J-class is like. However, the SAA flatbeds are as comfortable as you can get for any flight. The seat pitch is 73 inches and there's laptop power supply and full audio- and video on demand available.

My experience and thoughts on JFK-JNB: The best inflight service I have ever experienced, comfy seats, nice duvets and pillows, awesome food and great entertainment!  Big thumbs up

I flew LHR-CPT last January. SAA use the 744 on this route and the business class seat is not the new flat bed but the older lie-flat seats. Having said that I was impressed. I had heard many 'horror stories' about SAA and was quite annoyed not to be flying BA, especially missing out on the FF miles  Smile/happy/getting dizzy but things could not be more wrong.

Great Food
Great Crew
Great IFE
Great Seat

Only the lounge at LHR is a bit ratty...but that is just being picky...

Hope that helps make your decision.

There is no comparison, LH is garbage compared to SA, if you fly SA from FRA it will be a 346, business class is awesome. I flew it in November and everything was perfect, food, attention, IFE, amenities, seat, sleep....everything!

Check out the seat here too:
