Ever Fly The Same Reg Twice?

Sun Mar 06, 2005 3:17 am

It is not fun at all. It is kinda like 'been there, done that'. I have done it once, in the same trip! I went DEN-SFO on a UA 777, reg N220UA. 6 days later, on the return leg, I went SFO-DEN on a UA 777, reg N220UA. I kinda was mad, since I had already photographed the flight deck and window views.

Anyone else had similar situations?

Happens all the time, no biggie. The airlines only have a certain number of aircraft.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Happened to me just the other day. I flew MAN-ORD-LAX and back on bmi and UA, on both the MAN-ORD legs, i got the star alliance livery bmi 330. Was gutted, when we were landing in ORD coming in from LAX on the way back, i saw it parked up on a remote space, my heart sunk! Also, on a day trip to vegas, went up the stratosphere tower and had a look at LAS and saw the plane parked up there too! Think it was following me around america!

Well it is funny you ask, since I'm just looking through the regs of the planes that I've flown. Oddly enough, its only happened to me once, G-TREN, a BA 737-400. I flew this aircraft LGW-GIB on 02 April 1998 and from GIB-LGW on 25 April 1998.

It doesn't bother me. I think it's kinda of a neat oddity. Happen to me about 2 years apart. G-VIIS

I flew QF's 763 VH-OGF twice in the same trip AKL-MEL-AKL in 2003. That aircraft is often on that run though.

With about 90 flights a year on CO alone, it happens often. This past week it happened and also two weeks ago. Like Andz said, airlines only have a certain number of planes. If you fly the same airline alot, it is bound to happen fairly frequently. I can even now say that I have been on the same CO winglet'd 738 twice too.

Heaps of times. I've flown on a large portion of the QF fleet. The record for me is the Qantas 747-400 VH-OED. I've made 12 seperate flights on it now. No, I'm not airline staff either.

I've also flown on the same aircraft with different operators. I flew on 747 classics with both Qantas and then Continental and Virgin. Jumbos that have been in the fleets of Singapore Airlines, then SAA. Also 737s that were with Ansett that ended up for Qantas.

When I had to be a road warrior, I used CO and US. I know I flew the same a/c dozens of times . . . especially the 757s on US. And the 319s after they first got them, I was on the inaugural A319 flight on US. Damn nice plane too.

It's really not that unusual . . . . at all . . .

Only happened to me when I flew Air France:

  • F-GFKN twice on the same day (DUS-CDG and CDG-DUS)

  • F-GRHN on a flight from CDG to VIE and also on the return flight three days later

To answer the question, yes I have flown on the same aircraft, the ones I know of are IB MD-87s and I have sat in the same seat.

By law of averages, I have probably flown on the same BA 747 at least once since I have done more than 57 BA 744 flights since it was introduced in 1990 (?)

It is really annoying! You get this on most UK charter flights. I've had the same reg on:

    LGW-SZG G-OOAL
    SZG-LGW G-OOAL
    LGW-GNB G-OOAI
    GNB-LGW G-OOAI

Also EZY are too organised, and assign one aircraft for the EDI route:

    LGW-EDI G-EZEF
    EDI-LGW G-EZEF
LGW-EDI G-EZEK (usual EDI runner now)
    LGW-EDI G-EZEK

    Its frustrating  mad  ,

Flew ZK-SJE SJ 733 AKL-WLG-CHC-AKL with a stop of 3 nights. I was disappointed to get a repeat.

because I collect regos the aircraft I fly on, so the more different ones the better. If you collect baseball cards you don't really want repeats. I aim to be able to cross off many fleets as 'flown on' - I don't just like to photograph them. eg: if I were to fly VH-OGT again I would not be particularly happy, because QF have many 763s I have not yet flown and I would prefer them.
Flown to 120 Airports in 44 Countries on 73 Operators. Visited 55 Countries and counting. Wanderlust is like Syphilis, once you have the itch it's too late for treatment.

    Yeah, happens often...

MD's 747 5R-MFT FRA-NBO-TNR and return the same (they only had the one 747)
    LH's RJ70 D-AVRO (nice rego!) FRA-CGN-FRA
    U2's B737-300 G-EZYK EDI-BFS-EDI
    WJ's B737-700 C-FWAI YHM-YOW and YYZ-YOW
QO's J31 ZK-JSH a few times between DUD and CHC
    5G's A320-200 C-FRAA YYZ-PVR-YYZ

and the various ATR72's of ZK between DUD and CHC

plus very likely quite a few more, before I started logging registrations  Sad

    Cheers

It's quite normal for the LX flight out on Saturday morning to do LHR-ZRH then ZRH-JED. I always hope something goes wrong with it in ZRH so a new aircraft will be brought in for the JED leg. All for the sake of my flight log. guilty
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Oh yes many times. With Swissair and Swiss MD 11 and A 330-200. Some airlines often use the same aircrafts on a specific route.

Every time I go to and from LGW from IOM I travel on G-MIMA. Only time it changes is when the jet is U/S or in maintenance, when it is swapped for G-MANS, G-MABR or,in rare cases, G-OINV.

However, as MIMA is being returned to lessor in June, there will soon be another A/C on the route. Should be G-MANS.

And it will change again by next year when all the 146's are gone. We will have an RJ100 on the route then.

    Cheers

I have flown the same reg quite a few times. The only time i have flown the same reg on both inbound and outbound was in April 2004 when I flew into SIN from MAA on VT-EHC and flew back to MAA on the same a/c after 4 days.

My I ask why your heart sunk? Is it really that bad flying on the same aircraft twice?

No it aint, but i like the BD A330 in the full bmi livery, so i just wanted to fly on one of them, but never mind. I just remember when i went to CGN on HLX that i flew the same a/c in the morning and then back in the evening (D-AGET).

This might not count, but I was on a flight CLE-DTW-ABE. The flight numbers changed at DTW. Then I looked down at my ticket and found that I would be departing from the same gate... 40 minutes later, it was still the same plane at the gate and I got back on for my flight to ABE!

    Yes, it was a DC-9.

Dunno about the same rego. but I have had twice the same captain when I flew to PRG from ZRH (and back) with Swiss this year. About the same feeling as if I had been twice on the same plane... Smile

I actually never had. Well at least not that I can remember. My friend- WindowSeat- flew G-VFAB - a VS 747- LOTS of times. Here's our convo:

    Quote:

6:27:10 me: hey- how many times have you flown GV-FAB?
    6:27:23 windowseat: 6
    6:27:26 me: ok thanks

I guess it would be easier to run into another a/c you've already flown because of the size of VS's 747 fleet. Considering the same aircraft could possibly be dedicated to that certain route.

I've flown on G-CELG 3 times. Nice clean aircraft (as are all of JET2's 737's).
