What Was Your Craziest Flight Routing

Mon Mar 21, 2005 3:36 am

What has been the craziest flight routing you have ever made? I am in the process of booking the following:
TPA-IAD-LHR-SFO-LAX-SYD-MEL-SYD-LAX-SFO-LAX-IAD-LHR-IAD-TPA, all wtih UA.

Can anyone top that?

Well, I guess one of these two flights would probably be the craziest for me (the "/" represents destinations at which I spent more than 24 hours along the route):

HAJ-CPH-EWR-IAD-ORD-MSP-DEN-SEA-PDX-SFO/SFO-LAX-LAS-DEN-ORD-MIA-FRA-HAJ on SK, SA)">UA and LH

HAJ-LHR-IAD-DEN-SFO-LAX-LIH/LIH-SFO-FRA-HAJ on BD, SA)">UA and LH (yes, the return was quite direct)

Then again, this one was a bit strange as well...

HAJ-FRA-HRE-MUB-BBK/VFA-JNB-DUR/DUR-JNB-CPT/CPT-JNB-VFA-HRE-FRA-HAJ on LH, UM, BP, SA, BV and BA.

Well, I haven't flown this route, but when I was looking to book my trip to Seattle I checked into CO from MDT (Harrisburg Int'l).

CO would have flown from MDT to Albany NY. Then to EWR. From EWR to CLE to IAH to SEA.

For all that I would have expected the price to be at least competative.

That's why I'm flying UA. MDT-ORD-SEA.

A few times, to save money, I've flown CLE-DTW-ABE. Basically flew right back over CLE. On the way back I almost always make the "someone give me a parachute" joke.

The itinerary bit me in the a** one time, though, when there was a line of severe thunderstorms just hitting DTW at landing... and of course then they had to move s-l-o-w-l-y eastward until they passed CLE before my connecting flight could depart (it's only a 20 min flight DTW-CLE.)

When I worked at Skywest, I set out one day to just fly as much as I could in one day.
I did:
LAS-SBA-LAX-SNA-LAX-IPL-LAX-SAN-LAX-LAS.
All were Metro aircraft except for the LAX-SAN-LAX.

A few months later, I tried it again, going:
LAS-SBA-LAX-SAN-BUR-SAN-BUR-PSP-LAS.

Non revved PIA-SUX-DEN in the 70's on Ozark. Got bumped in SUX flew to DSM. Then ORD. Off to ALO, finally on to DEN. Left at like 7am got to DEN around 8 or 9.

I was just a kid and remember lots of the airports. There may have been a stop or two I forgot about. But those were the airports where we disembarked.

When I worked at BUF, to avoid the full flights from the west coast, I flew

BUF-ORD-NRT-HNL

It was a long day, but well worth it (first class the whole way!)

I was trying to book a flight from London (any airport) to Strasbourg. Air France was the only airline operating to Strasbourg and their website suggested flying from LHR-MAD-CDG and then Strasbourg - three changes of aircraft and a total flying time of 7.5 hours! Now why exactly would I need to go halfway round Europe for this relatively short journey?

Did ORD to LHR via SFO once. Hardly crazy when compared to the above...
