Any One Done Sky Diving?

Tue Mar 22, 2005 7:17 pm

I am sure a lot of a netters must have done sky diving or are professional sky divers. I have done it in ZQN on Nov 6th. 2004 and again in Rotorua a couple of days later. I must say that it was the best experience I have ever had in my life. I especially enjoyed the free fall.

I would like to hear about the experiences of other members who have indulged in this activity.

I've always had a problem with the concept of jumping out of a perfectly safe airplane. Ah, hell, one day I will try it.  Smile

Yes. I did it for charity The British Lung Foundation at Black Knights Parachute Centre back in 2000. We took off to 10,000 ft and we did a 120MPH freefall to 5,000 ft when the parachute opened.

On that particular day it was quite overcast and my mum had a bright orange mac on and I could see her as we were floating down!!!!

Would love to do it again.

Funny true story: About four years ago, one of the student skydivers landed hard and broke his ankle. He landed about 600 meters from the jump zone. He took out his cell phone and called 911 for an ambulance and rescue. He told the told the dispatcher that he'd fallen out of an airplane and broke his leg. The dispatcher asked, "How far did you fall?" He replied, "About 10,000 feet." She didn't believe him at first.

No one in their right mind jumps out of a perfectly servicable aeroplane for fun. Let alone whizzing through the air until the last minute before opening the 'chute!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid I like to land in comfort not on on my feet!

I wanted to do it, but I saw a thing about skydiving on TV that made me change my mind. It was about how a teen tried it and froze when he jumped out and slammed into the ground. He's still living tho.

In case of amateur jumpers like myself, it's a tandem jump with an instructor. Everything is okay till the door opens and you sit on it with your legs hanging out. Then you wonder what the hell am I doing out here? Take a deep breath and jump!!!!!! Then the fun begins, you can do what you want during the free fall, flap you hands like a bird, reach out and shake hands with other jumpers. The view from up there is really fascinating. You can even control the speed of your descent. The free fall for beginners is normally upto 7000 feet. Then the chute is deployed and you float down and land in the drop zone.

When you are skydiving, make sure you have a photographer with you, without the pics, none of your friends are going to believe you.

Cheers!!!
