Whats Do You Think Is Best

Wed Mar 30, 2005 7:39 am

Simple question. If you had a choice of flying a 777 or MD11 with 9 across 18" wide seating and 31" - 32" pitch or 10 across 17" wide seating 34" - 35" pitch which will you prefer.

I have long legs but I don't have a fat arse so I would choose option 2.

I have the opposite problem to my fellow country person Amy, I have a fat arse and short legs, but it would not matter which option I took as my partner goes on every flight I do, and has this annoying habit of falling asleep before take-off and occupying her seat and a significant part of mine.

The things we do in the name of love, still won't give up the window seat tho'

If it came to a straight fight between a flight on a 777 or a MD11, it would have to be the 777, MD11's are rather cramped; like their forerunners the Dc10, 777's seem roomier and have their own PTV's etc.

Well, I booked an MD11 but it got changed to a B777! So I can't really participate, sorry!

However, being broad shouldered and short-legged, I guess I'd go for the 777.

I recently flew in a 10 abreast DC-10. It was a cheap flight/vacation package, HNL-LAS-HNL, but after the flight HNL-LAS I knew I would shell out and upgrade to mainline coach next time! My legs are longer than my tush is wide, but I was uncomfortable just sitting. When it came time for the meal it was all I could do to keep from bumping into my neighbors every couple seconds. Even with long legs, I can always stow my carry ons above and stow my feet underneaththe seat in front of me (and I'm sensible enough to get an aisle, nice as a window seat is).
Aside from the seat comfort, the extra seat means the aisles are teeny tiny! With a normal width aisle you can creatively squeeze by the service carts. No way imaginable are you going to do that in one of those sardine cans.
