Nope. Hardly ever talk about aviation. And that is perfectly fine with me. But of course I don't mind discussing aviation related topics with peolpe. Still, I'm not the kind of person who goes up to someone and say "so, what do you think of the new Iberia paintscheme?"  Smile

Apart from two of my friends from secondary school who are also aviation fans, it isn't a very common topic at all which I think is a shame.

I have a few friends that like Aviation. One knows alot about aviation. But a few others just like to talk about it once in a while. One is going to Embrily Riddle. Another wants to go to the Air Force. And two others fly FS with me. I enjoy talking about it with anyone.

I wish! If people around me have something aviation related to talk about they'll always ask me, but no-one round me talks about aviation...

Quite often. It's a major part of me. If I'm not talking directly about aviation I'm talking about peripheral subjects like travelling or careers or whatever. Of course if I'm around plane spotting friends then it comes up in conversation, for hours at a time. It's great..

Rarely,

Wife doesn't care, Son rarely cares, Daughter shows some signs of interest, but she's only 3.5!! I work in computers, and most of the people I work with care more about computers then anything else.

I have two friends in Miami, but it's tough to get to hang out and talk 'shop' with them.

Every now and then with friends. My dad is interested in stuff as well, but not really an aviation "fan". I have a friend who is running one of the best aviation sites (www.airlinerlist.com), and we chat about aviation. And lastly, I am teaching tourism at university, and every so often I do a few lectures on aviation topics, such as LCC or alliances, Freedoms of the Air, etc...

I have one friend that also is interested in aviation. He goes to a pilot high school about 400 kilometers away from here so we only talk to each other on the internet and when he is visiting his family here in my town. My other friends think I'm a little bit crazy but that it's kind of cool to know "a lot" about aviation (I'm not saying that I know a lot, only that I know more than they do).

Unfourtunatly, No. All my friends could never tell a 717 apart from a 747. But I've accepted that. For people to chat with aviation with- I've made lots of friends that I talk to on AIM and MSN all the time.  Smile

Not really. Living on a residential airpark, it's kind of ho-hum everyday stuff. Occasionally something happens that fires up discussion, such as the four A-4s that a couple of neighbors bought or the arrival of a new resident/airplane. That and idiots driving across the active runway without looking for aircraft movements.

Other than my Aunt and Uncle who fly a lot, I thirst for people I know that have an interest in commercial aviation.

My conversations with my Aunt and Uncle usually end up into a discussion as to wheather Skyteam or AA(One World) is better. They always fly AA through DFW, and I always fly NW through MEM or CO through IAH.

One thing we do agree on is that NWA's new paint scheme is pretty cool.

Aviation has been my past (mostly traveling as a passenger), is my present (preparing for flight training) and is my future (commercial airline pilot).

My younger brother (Intothinair) and I talk about aviation 24/7 since we don't have any other aviation enthusiasts around here in Penang.

Cheers,

  • At home: Sometimes (because my girlfriend is F/A)

  • Among my friends and family: Almost never

My girlfriend works for the same airline as I. My best friend is restoring some WW2 fighters. My other close friends are all either LAMEs or Design Engineers. The surprising thing is that we DON'T always talk about aviation, we do have other interests!

I drive my family crazy I talk about aviation so much! I always have to tell my friends about the AMS-MEX flight that I saw, the ABX DC-8-60, or some other strange occurrence. The good thing is, I don't think it bothers them! They are at least somewhat interested in my ramblings!(I think!) But, I can also talk their ear off about fishing, my beagle, or other related subjects.

No way, except my brother no one.
This one time, one guy came up to me and said, "You know what, there's another person in this school who loves anything to do with aviation" and I was like "YES, FINALLY"
I asked that guy what his favourite airplane was, and his answer was
    "The new Airbus"
And I then said, "You mean the Airbus A380, right?"
And his answer was" I'm not sure what it's called"
Oh well, it seems like in the whole school, my brother and I are the only people who know about aviation.
Luckily my father knows a bit, and since he's a senator at LH, he takes pics. for us when he's on the plane.
Luckily I managed to teach my mother what a Boeing 777 is, and what sorts of differences there are between a 737 and a 777 for example.
Oh well, some people call me crazy, when I tell them that I go to the Bayan lepas international airport(PEN) every week to photograph planes.
By the way, PEN handled some 2.3 million passengers in 2003.
So yeah, about 90 take offs/landings a day, on peak times, I see about 6 aircraft an hour. Mostly MH and Air Asia.
Oh well, atleast there's over 700000 photos on Airliners.net which I can look at.

    Cheers, Konstantin G.

My partner worked as flight attendant with Gulf Air based in Bahrein and later in Abu Dhabi, and is very interested in aviation as well. We visit the airport on a regular basis, and our house is located near the flightpath of Rwy 12 approaches for Valencia airport, so we´re staring into the sky quite often.

That would be great, but as far as i know, no one else in this forum lives in Penang except my brother.
I think you're more lucky in Mumbai.
Thanks for the idea though, but i doubt that it will ever happen here.

At home, "Yes" but at work no body knows anything about aviation. Those guys would not be able to distinguish between a B737 and a B747.

Yeah.....At times when Im at the Airport & move from the Tarmec into the Pax Terminal for a Drink of water/coffee.I overhear some real smart comments by pax to co-pax about what each Aircraft is & whats happening.
Its very Amusing & Im really tempted to tell them they are wrong.  Smile
