Does Air Force One Need A New C/s?

Sun Apr 10, 2005 3:42 pm

this may spark a debate, but does anyone in here think that its time to freshen up AF1 with some new colours? Maybe a little more red white and blue, as opposed to white and blue?? Also, which presidential aircraft has the best c/s??? Start posting!

It may look nice to freshen the colors up a bit, but I personally love the current paint. Also, you have to remember these planes are used on diplomatic journeys and shouldn't be like some of the flashy planes out there now. If they changed it, they would probably stick to a very conservative design.

Absolutely not!

The plane IMO is fine the way it is and as what Newark777 said, the presidential planes should not used as fancy showpieces to take away from its main purpose.
If any heads of state planes get a new color, it should be the the A310's (CC150's) that we have in our country as the two shade grey is so bland.

You would trash the design work of Raymond Loewy (the father of industrial design, btw) done by the commission of Jacqueline Kennedy?

No.

No.

No.

No thank you.

No.

A thousand times, no.

Raymond Loewy said the following about the overlaiden chrome monstrosities Detroit was producing in the 50's:

"Jukeboxes on wheels, aesthetic aberrations that masked the workings of the machine beneath the layers of tawdry flash."

That quote could equally apply to the style, or lack thereof, of some of the liveries we're seeing flying today.

Watched a program about AF1 B707, and IIRC it was Jackie Kennedy that choose the baby blue colour on the 707!

I love the colors! I like the blue design with it starting out as a stripe above the lighter blue and then the darker one expands to cover the cockpit. I love it but maybe the next plane in 8-15 years can have some red in it or have the US flag on the tail. Maybe get the eagle in their. It needs to represent America and the strong and bold look is very fitting. No need for changing it now.
I say, keep the blue just put red and the flag with an eagle.

Absolutely not.

Not only is Air Force One, in reality, a military aircraft thus subject to exacting standards of military color scheme, it is the Private a/c of PotUS. We need not paint it up like a circus.

It's current scheme is recognized world wide. It is stately, professional, clean, and neat without seeming pretentious or braggadocious or arrogant.

And last time I checked there IS a flag on the tail. The only other decoration necessary is the Seal of the President of the United States, which adornes the forward fuselage below the cheat-line.

I agree. The paint scheme on SAM 28000 & 29000 is nothing short of stunning. IMO, probably the most majestic scheme on any 747 to date.

Try explaining that is not the case in Rome where all the other world leaders were looking for something that does 1/3 of what AF1 does!!!

That being said, I like the c/s and like the idea that it be as close to monolithic as possible. It helps project the certanty and stability that is THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA!

Change is good for ailines, not governments!!

I think it looks good but they should make the belly the same blue color as the top.

Air Force One has many color schemes, depending on what the President is flying at any particular time. The VC-25A's are elegant planes, as are the C-40B's and C-32A's. Therefore, no.
