Which One Would You Fly On An A380 Or 787?

Sun Apr 24, 2005 7:21 am

Before I start, I do not what see no A vs B or any A380 or 787 bashing thank you.

The reason I ask this question was due to the fact that both these airliners are state of the art. The A380 has size extra luxury in it's cabin and would seem ideal for a 14 to 18 hour flight. Now on the other hand the 787 will have a lower cabin pressure, design to fly smoother due it's composite airframe and bigger window. Both fly at the same speed, both will have nicely pitch seats, both are just state of the art. So answer this post not as an Airbus fan not as a Boeing fan but as a future passenger on transpacific or transatlantic flights.

A380, Mainly because most people that travel long haul have been on a single deck long haul airliner. Like the 777, 767, A330, A340 ect. However, the A380 is the First ever airliner to have a full double deck. So, I would like to try something different and new.
Ok, I'm an Airbus fan...All that was a pathetic excuse.  Smile

When you're sitting in your seat on the A380 in flight (which will be just as crammed as any other airplane), how exactly are you going to tell the difference between its two decks and another airplane's single deck?

Whichever aircraft is operated by the airline offering the most convenient schedule at the lowest fare. If these were equal, or nearly so, my choice would come down to airline rather than aircraft, based on various personal criteria, not the least of which is where I prefer to earn FF points.

As an aviation fan, I will fly on both!

I will let you know in a few years which plane I prefer.

787

Because I probably won't have to wait as long for my luggage and wade through such a large croud.

Based on what each manufacturer has stated, to me, the 787 is an easy choice. Any bars and stores and whatnot on the A380 are up to the airline. The lower cabin pressure, increased humidity, smoother cruise, and of course, bigger windows all come standard on the 787. That mood lighting looks pretty cool too, hope Boeing is keeping it. Big grin

Both.
I don't want to use the same type of pathetic argumentation so often used here on a.net by the Boeing fanatics who just can't get over the fact Airbus is kicking Boeing's ass at the moment. You know, the kind of: "787 is more less just a blueprint, maybe it won't even fly, and if it will it's certain it will not perform as promised, the stuff about cabin pressure, etc. is just propaganda - won't believe until I, etc.

As someone who grew up drinking their Air in Florida, this would seem to make a great argument for me.

Have to agree, you can't really say which one you prefer before you have flown on both.

Sorry, don't want to offend you but this is a rather silly question. When you are an aviation enthusiast then you want to fly both. I hope so and I will. No other question. There is NO either-or!!!!

B787. The B787 is the future of commercial air travel. I would only fly the A380 if there was no other option.

It seems to me we have some plane spotters on here, and some cheerleaders. I'd fly both, because I enjoy planes period. Those who say they would only fly one or the other unless their life was on the line might not really be plane enthusiasts after all.

I'm looking forward to flying both!  Wink I refuse to choose between the two, (as I haven't so much as touched either one) until I have flown them both a few times with different airlines.

I definitely want to try them both. But given the fact that I'll move to New Zealand, and NZ has ordered the 787, there might be a slightly better chance to be on the 787 first. Having said that, when I get back to Europe or North America from there, it will be a good chance to fly an airline using the A380 as well, for example QF, EK, or and of the Asian airlines... I am VERY much looking forward to SEEING them in the first place...and then flying them as well of course  Wink

You are comparing apples to oranges here. The aircraft are completly different. The only similarity is that they are coming into the market at almost the same time and are very innovative. I would go for the 787 because I don't like the idea and hassle of being on a plane with 450+ people. I will definetly fly the A380 when it debuts and whenever I feel like having a "joy ride". But for constant travel, 787 without question.

I would fly on the 787 rather than the a380 because I am not a fan of flying with 500+ people. I like airbus but I am not sure I believe in the a380 type of travel. Plus the 787 will be unlike any AC boeing has ever made so it will be a new experience. But with the way things are going over here It will be more likely that we will se a LCC operating a 787 rather than a legacy carrier.  Smile

I'd fly the A380 because most of my mates wouldn't have any clue, or care about, the 787s special features. They do however know that the A380 is going to be the world largest passenger plane and would probably care a whole lot more when I told them about the trip. Plus, I fly economy so there's probably a lot better chance of getting an economy seat upstairs (I don't know, correct me if I'm wrong but I'd imagine that there would be quite a few economy seats upstairs with most carriers)

I would love to fly 787 though.

Cheers,
OzGuy

Agree 100%.

I guess I'll fly on both in time -I'd like to sample both, and as LHR is my local airport, I have a good chance of doing so in the future I guess.

I fully intend to fly on both at least once. I'm having one or two qualms about the A380 - being squodged in with 600 other people, you just know that whatever the airlines say about all the extra space on board, they're just going to fill it with more seats - that's their business after all. I think boarding and disembarking is going to be an absolute zoo, as is baggage claim. But never mind, have to try everything once - I'll see how I like it.

787 seems very nice from the mock-ups - but again, we wont be seeing any of those fancy slimline super-wide seats, or lobbies or tables with flowers on - it will be seats, seats and more seats, business as usual. The big windows look nice (if they happen), but I don't like the idea of the F/A overriding the shade/polarisor on my behalf - if I want to look out of the window, I'm allowed !!

I really can't get all that excited about the 787, as it seems to be a bit incremental vs the 777 or the 343 etc. The only single deck longhaul a/c I can get excited about are the 773 and the 346, neither of which I have been on yet. Naturally, if and when I get the opportunity to fly on a 787 I will be mildly intersetd as it is always interesting to fly something new, but that's as excited as I can get.

But the 380 is something special. I can't wait to fly the queen of the skies. That will be a sense of occasion.

absolutely correct... I'm leaning towards 787 but there is no 787 so A380 is fine with me.

Both airplanes would be a wonderful experience.

After having flown them both, maybe then we can compare advantages and disavantages from both manufacturers design technology teams. Not before.....
