Which Airplane Would You Buy?

Mon Apr 25, 2005 12:34 pm

Well, I got thinking about it last night, and I was wondering what type of airplane everyone would buy if they could afford anything.

I would actually have two: I would start off by buying a 777-300ER in a VIP configuration as my all-round plane! A bedroom, a theatre/living room, and of course: a bar which also serves peanuts  Big grin

I would also buy an F-16E for having fun in. That would be a wild ride!

What about you guys?

Probably some Bombardier Global Express or a Gulfstream V. Then again, a 757 would be nice!

For getting around, a Boeing 747SP. For a toy, a Douglas Skyraider, CASA 2111 or Grumman HU-16 Albatross.

Actually, as money is theoretically no object, all of the above.

One of the ex-PSA L-1011s with the lower deck lounge.
A Boeing 707 and 727 would also be great to have!

B773ER with long range fuel tanks. Reason for the decision would be because the B777 has the widest fuselage then any passenger aircraft, which means more space to put things in  Smile

767-200ER or if I was buying brand new a 787-8, but most probably that would be too big to operate to many airports, so something smaller would be fine. 721,M87,ACJ and GEX are all up there on my list.

I think I'd go for a nicely refurbished 727! I love Trijets, and the 727 has the right size. Also, I always found the rear staircase cool, haha!

Probably an A340-600 for long-haul and a Cessna Citation X for short/medium haul (I've always had a liking for this plane and similar business jets. Something always brings a smile to my face when you hear the words "Cessna", "FL470" and "600 mph"!)

Definetly an A380, and turn it into a flying mansion. And put in a 7/11 for good measure...

I'd forgotten about the Avanti. I'll have one of those as well for the times a 747SP isn't practical, seeing as how money is no object.

I would get a Boeing 757 for long flights. A Beechcraft King Air 350 for shorter rides and rides into small fields. And a huey to satisfy my helicopter urge. I would also probably get like a cessna 180 or 206 on floats. I can only dream that one day I can at least own one of these. I am surprised that no one else has mentioned to 757.

I would have a RJ70, just be able to land it at the local airport, then have a 767-200ER to connect with and take me anywhere in the world. I can but dream

Why an SP?, may as well go the whole hog and have a 744, loads of extra room, enough for a cinema, a games room and still plenty of room for the friends that the money will attract!.

I would personally like to re-assemble a Concorde, just to use on those day trips shopping in New York.

For everyday use I would have a BBJ2, obviously decked out to my specifications.

I would also have something like a Jetranger III, just to get me to the airport.

Well we can all dream.

I have a soft spot for the SP and it's plenty big enough for me and my nearest and dearest; as for 'friends' attracted by my (still very much theoretical) wealth, I don't want them, except maybe some booty girls from Hip-Hop music videos. Big grin

Because there are way less SPs, and to be in the SP owners Club would be way more exclusive.

Iit'd be hard to pin down ONE airplane, I think I'd want an F-14, an F-15E, an F/A-18E, an F-117, an A-10 or a B-1. Of those, I think I'd go with the B-1...sexy lines, good performance, and after all, as we all know, "fighter pilots make movies...bomber pilots make history"

I'd be quite happy with the front section of any 747, say up till the wings. Doesn't have to fly. Just to make a 2-story weekend house out of it.

If I were to buy one to make into a house, I'd get an L1011. I'd convert the #2 engine housing into a loft/office. The cockpit would be an entertainment area. Bedrooms would be in the hold.

I'd have to go with the 727-100. 727s can get into all but the smallest airfields and have ample room onboard. They can also take a heck of a beating and still fly against all odds if ever the need be. World Airways proved that in April of 1975 when attempting to evacuate the last civilian refugees from Da Nang. The airplane (727-100) was mobbed by soldiers fleeing the advancing Vietcong though a few civilians made it onboard. As it was, the Vietcong were close enough to start shelling the airport once they noticed the plane there. The aircraft took numerous hits from small arms and reportedly took damage to a wing flap from a grenade. Some persons opened the cargo bay doors and crammed into there while others attempted to force their way aboard at the rear airstairs. It should be noted that the aircraft never came to a complete stop while on the ground. Due to the situation in the back, raising the airstairs was not possible and believe it or not, the aircraft took off from the taxiway with the stairs completely extended but not before running off the end of the taxiway into the grass and striking both a fencepost and truck before getting airborne. Upon learning of this incident, Boeing's engineers ran some calculations and determined that the airplane should not have been able to fly. Absolutely amazing-truth is stranger than fiction.

I'll get a B727-200, refit it with winglets and more powerful/economical engines and add a long range fuel tank.

Maybe later, I'll also get an A330-223 and a B707-300 or -400

Cheers,
