I haven't, but have often thought about what it would be like to experience. Not that I would like to experience it...

I almost caused one when I landed a CUB for the first time, haha. I ended up off the side of the runway before my friend recovered.

No. However, I was aboard a DL 727 on approach to LGA in '92/'93 when the no. 2 engine shut down and we had to perform a "priority landing"

Fortunately, I've never been on a flight that crashed, but I came quite close: I was booked, and ticketed, on the Faucett flight that crashed on approach to Arequipa in 1996 - I, together with two friends, cancelled something around a month or two before the flight, because the whole trip that we were planning had increased in price beyond what we were willing to pay...

117 passengers and 6 crew members were on board - none survived.

I haven't been in a plane crash. My grandfather survived a military plane crash way long time ago.

I was flying on TWA from DFW to CMH the day (Nov. 11, 2001) when AA A300 jet crashed in NY.

I do not know anyone who are survivors of major plane crash ... It would be of my interest to sit and talk with them.

I was in the right seat of a vintage light aircraft that crash-landed a few years ago following engine failure. There was a couple of seconds of fear then I spent the rest of the time thinking, "#@%! We're going to bend the plane!" The result, after dodging a tall tree at about 60' AGL, was landing gear torn out, control surfaces damaged on both wings, RH wing forced backwards at the root, damage to the belly and damage to the front fuselage caused by the engine moving back.

After we came to rest (impact forces were like being in a dodgem car) I turned to the pilot and said very matter-of-factly to the pilot, "I'm all right". He said, "So am I". I said, "Let's get out" and we did. Neither of us had a scratch. I hurt myself more while dismantling it a couple of days later, jagging myself on lockwire and split pins. All in all it was a very interesting experience, but one I'd happily never go through again.

I know two people that where going to go on Eastern 401. One canceled a few Weeks before and another just missed the flight. Both are parents of two friends.

It was Salso that rode out the OS Fokker 70 crash. You can find his story in reply 35: Have You Ever Seen A Plane Crash? (by RootsAir Apr 6 2005 in Aviation Polls & Prefs)

Clearly the Delta 1141 crash at DFW was a terrible incident, but I had a quick question about the incident report on http://amelia.db.erau.edu/reports/ntsb/aar/AAR89-04.pdf , that I hope people don't mind me raising.

It says under point 1.5 that the Captain had a first-class medical certificate, but that the first and second officers had a second-class medical certificate. I wondered if anyone could explain how these relate to the current Class 1/Class 2 medicals, and whether it was procedure for the different ranks to have different classes of medical?

Not been in a crash, but been in an emergency landing on a QF 767-300 at BKK back in 1996, one engine landing, that scared the shit outta me!

Sean Mendis (B747-437B), I think that is his username, booked a ticket on the flight that crashed into the World Trade Center, I don't remember why he didn't get on the flight.

AU / AR MD-83 rwy 13 skid-off at AEP, 02/01 (I reckon). If that can be considered as an accident. No casualties fortunately, aircraft is still in service.

Cheers! wave

I was on the TWA 747 that crashed as TWA 800 2 days before it happened, on my way to JFK-ATH. Freaked me out for a little while.

I was also on the Swissair MD-11 that crashed as SR111 just 8 days before doing JFK-GVA. My mom obviously knows how to book flights!

A close family friend was booked on one of the AA flights that hit the WTC on 9/11. She cancelled 3 days before because her best friend was driving cross-country and asked her to accompany her by car instead of flying. Quite fortunate.

And no, I wouldn't want to be in a plane crash. If, God forbid, it did happen, I think it would mess me up too much. Then it becomes a question of whether or not I'd be thankful to have survived, especially since I always fly with my family, and if they all perished and I didn't it would kill me. Kind of a morbid thought, but I think you guys get what I mean.

I remember hearing about that. Didn't he take a bump & get re-routed via MCO or somewhere in Florida on Delta Express, which ended up saving his life?

No. But if I ever do die because of a plane crash I think it'd be really cool to die on a UA flight lol.

Airlinerfreak -

Thanks for posting that link!

I've never been in a crash, but I did spend a weekend helping to clean up a crash when I was in the Air Force - C-130 crash at Lajes, Azores, Sep 1976, pilot flew it into the ground attempting to find the runway in bad weather, 8 crew plus 60 college students as pax...no survivors. I won't post details of the cleanup here...just believe me that it was horrible! Afterwards my brain did weird things, and it took a LONG time before I could get over that.

hey never been in one.

my grandma was on a TWA L1011 flight that went off the runway taking off in munich I want to say. pilots were drunk she thinks. they were taking off, and was about ready to lift off when 3 loud explosions went off. then the plane veered suddenly to the right and went off the runway. apparntly, the pilot went over some lights atht were on the sie of the runway and it knocked out the tires. if they had taken off they may not have been able to land.

someone over at airdisaster.com whos screen anme and name is rebecca was on UA 232 and survived and told the story of it.
