NO, that airline really sucked !
No wonder they went down the drain !
Sometimes, I really felt scared on board, especially the Tristars !

Jetblue is a much better product on the JFK-Florida routes !

I only had one opportunity to travel on Eastern and I liked it. The FAs were great, the departure and arrival were on time. It's too bad it's gone.

No. ever since I first got into Identifying Airlines and Aircraft as a very small child in the mid 1980s I absolutely hated the livery (and for that matter the tristars they flew at the time, how times have changed...). But that's beside the point, failed airlines are not worth missing when there are plenty more that do the same job on similar routes for similar cash. Talk about over sentimentality for an airline.

As a lifelong Atlantan and the grandson of an Eastern retiree, yes. Eastern was Atlanta's original hometown airline, predating Delta into Atlanta by several years, and Eastern's HQ was in Atlanta for around 7 years before moving it to Miami; Delta did not move their HQ from Monroe, LA to Atlanta until 1941. The Atlanta area is still feeling the effects of Eastern's demise nearly 15 years later. AirTran has in many ways, become Eastern's replacement in Atlanta, but is still a lot smaller than Eastern was @ ATL. Eastern and Delta had about the same amount of gates and shared a similar amount of the marketshare in Atlanta, but without Eastern, Delta grew larger. In some respects, Delta's current troubles can be traced back to Eastern's demise.

Yes, although I only had one opportunity to fly with them (BOS-LAX-BOS Feb 1987), as a native Bostonian I always thought of them before the old Terminal A was torn down to make room for the recently opened one.

Well seeing that EAL put a roof over my head, food on my table and the clothes on my back I do miss that airline. First plane I ever flew on as well.

R.I.P

My first flight was on EA. During Christmas break of 1971, my family and I flew EA to DAB to visit my grandparents in Deltona, FL. I was 6 at the time, so my recollection is somewhat limited.

I believe that we flew down Christmas night BOS-LGA-EWR-DAB all DC-9 equipment. On one of the legs, we were sitting towards the back of the plane; I do remember my ears were hurting on that flight (Whisperjet indeed!). The return trip (on January 3, 1972) was an all 727 DAB-ATL-BOS itinerary.

One of my first plane models was a EA Whisperjet 727. It might still be in a storage closet of my mother's house; not sure if it's still intact.

Although I never an opportunity to fly them again since that trip (I flew once again w/TW in 1979 but didn't fly at all during the '80s); I did have a liking towards them. Maybe it was the livery and/or the DC-9s and 727s they flew.

The short answer to the question is, in some ways, "Yes"; but I have no real sentimental connections to them.

During the 70s and 80s, growing up in Northern NJ under the approach path of all EWR traffic coming in from the south, it seemed the vast majority of planes were EA. Was a bit boring at the time - now how I wish they were still around. I miss spotting the white fuselage/hockey stick livery on their DC9s, 727s and L1011s.

Yeah, I miss them. EAL was first in the US with many different aircraft.
Such as the L-1011, the first US-based to fly the A300, and the 757.
If it wasn't for the idiot Frank Lorenzo, Eastern might still be here today.
Regards.

YES! Eastern started the shuttle routes between LGA-DCAand LGA-BOS,way back in 1961, I think. I flew it a few times in the 70's. It was nice to fly on a moment's notice without having to make a reservation beforehand or paying a king's ransome for it.

I've never flown them but it seems to me that I would miss them.

Yes I agree but in their time their was no B6 so they were the big carrier on the routes then.

Give credit where credit is due. The mechanics union had a lot to do with EA's demise, too.  talktothehand

But, back to topic, no I do not miss EA. They were the AA of the east coast during the 1960s.  thumbsdown

I remember flying on Eastern 757 from ORD to ATL in 1990. First class seat. Brand-new carpet floor, brand-new leather seat cover, new curtain, new flight crew uniform. Pizza was served for lunch. I miss Eastern!
