If You Could Buy An Airline, Which One?

Fri May 06, 2005 5:43 am

Hey!

If you were VERY rich and could buy any airline which one would it be?
(Don't only think of the profit)

I would go with either

Singapore
or
Lufthansa

Best Regards

I would buy Southwest Airlines... maybe for $900 million? (does anyone know the price tag of Southwest Airlines - if they're for sale?)

SQ - It's been a very consistent performer over the years and the physical location of SIN will always be seeing good loads through to Europe/USA/Australia.

My choice would have to be OK

EDIT: the roll-over mouse thing isn't working so for those who don't know: OK=Czech Airlines

Try not to be jealous, we can't all be Czech.

BA or VS. That would be magic.

TWA back in it's struggling days. I'd be intersted in a fixer upper. New route, new aircraft, etc. Bring it back to it's old glory. I'd much rather do this than buy an airline that is no need of improvements.

I would buy Thomsonfly and bring back the Britannia name and exit BY from the TUI group!

Then I would buy some 777's to add to the long haul fleet! Then I would make Britannia scheduled, flying from LGW to worldwide destinations!  cloudnine

Then I would buy Bangkok Air and expand them globally!

I'd buy SQ, amazing service, amazing IFE, one of the most modern fleets on earth, it's hub is at one of the best, if not the best airport on earth, so definitely SQ.

I know one should never buy an airplane simply because one likes it, but I'll have to go against my better judgment and plunk down that Visa card (with airline miles) and purchase Air Atlantique:

I can hear those big round engines singing!

Granted, accommodations may not be up to what one would find aboard Singapore, Virgin Atlantic, or Emirates, but the decor does convey a certain old-world charm:

I'd buy Mesa and turn that train wreck into a decent airline. I'd start by getting rid of Freedom/Air Midwest and consolidate them all into one airline. Then I'd tackle the "Why does the Union hate me" issue.

Certainly no US carrier. BA makes a ton of $$. I would probably but the one that makes the most profits, from a business standpoint. For fun, I'd buy US and trash the mgmt team and turn the f*cker around myself.

I would buy bmi and VS, pension off Sir Michael and demote Sir Richard, and then rebrand the airline "British Caledonian", retaining all VS's popular features but with the traditions and professionalism of the BCal brand.

All aircraft would be repainted in BCal's colours and the Golden Lion will once again be flying but this time with access to LHR and a serious competition to BA. The BCal uniforms would be back in a jiffy.

SAS - in order to "de-crapify" them. make them into a proper airline and sack the airline management team who is now starting to seem incompetent. Just because you buy virtually every Scandinavian airline does not mean you can earn monopoly rent which they seem to have believed is the case.

Air Berlin; they still are privately owned and are number 2 German carrier in term of passengers carried (and still are expanding).

If money was no object, then I would rather buy a now defunct airline, rather than one that is actually making a profit.

I would love to buy an airline such as V-Bird, (would be rather cheap to buy), pay off their debts, and try to resurrect their fortunes.

Imagine owning Birds such as these:

Also imagine the self esteem you would feel re-hiring the the old staff and then watching the airline grow and taking on more staff.

If only money was no object.

I would buy NW. I'd replace A319s, A320s and the 757s with more DC-9s. Then I'd start contructing long range DC-9s in conjunction with Boeing, and replace 747s, DC-10s and A330s. Could anything be better than this?

Cheers

Id say both Virgin Atlantic and easyJet

Virgin Atlantic would have a ALL A340-600 fleet with a lot more destinations

easyJet would have a ALL A319 fleet - Id re-brand easyJet as Virgin Europe (Scrapping virgin express altogether ) and Virgin Europe wouldnt be a low cost airline - It would be a VS style full service airline in a 2 class configuration

and all the VS - Virgin Europe crew wouldnt look like blonde barbie girls !!!

I'd buy Virgin Atlantic and sell their Airbus fleet, cancel their A380 orders and replace the A346s with 773ERs and become the launch customer for the 747 Advance  bigthumbsup

I would buy Allegiant. Why? Because it would be easy to sell of the MD-80s and start basically fresh.
