Just For Fun: Rename US/HP

Thu May 19, 2005 12:18 am

Only for fun-and don't do anything silly, OK?  tongue

Have some fun trying to rebrand what looks like the rebirth of two American carriers.

Forty-Four Air for the four times the combined carriers have been in Chapter 11.
I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.

I think they're looking for something along the lines of a funny name... And I would say that AA owns the TWA name seeing as they took the airline.

Thanks,

On a serious note....

Jack Trout, the marketing guru of world renown ...suggests that a name change should be in order for a newly merged HP/US...

I like 'em buying the rights to and resurrecting the Pan Am name and logo, personally.  Smile

But if we're going with a wholly-new name, I'd suggest Destiny Air Lines.

Back in the 70s, American & Western were talking merger. The combined airline
would have been known as "A & W".....like the root beer.  Wink But in all seriousness, let's the US/HP deal be known as "Allegheny Air". Let's go back to their heyday when times were much better then. Regards.

"Destiny" may be pushing it a little for US... there's a little thing called "tempting fate"!

"Air America"? Don't know anything about the CIA crap during the Vietnam War, but I know there was a charter airline with this name. And it is a great name...

er...

How about US West?  Silly

(for those of you who don't know, US West was a phone company covering the western portion of the United States with a reputation for lousy customer service). I'll leave you all to argue whether the metaphor fits or not, especially as I've never flown them, but I do think the US people I've worked with are terrific!

East-West Airlines

Merger Airways

Coastal Airlines (if there already isn't one with that name)

CAN Airlines (Consolidated Airline Networks)

BK Express (for you pessimists out there)

JMW Airlines ("just might work" - for you optomists out there)

STS Airlines ("sea to sea")

some good, some not so good, what can I say???

What about resurrecting the "Republic" name? That would resonate well with people - albeit not quite as well as Pan Am would.

The idea of naming the company Republic is also growing on me. Anyone think we can spruce up the old goose logo?

I'm not sure Pan Am would work because it's still flying, albeit on it's third incarnation (ironic, huh?), and I don't think they would be able to purchase the rights to the name.

I believe DL still owns the Northeast Airlines name, other than a Bolivian charter airline briefly using the name and livery on a couple of ex-TW L-1011s; the NE brand wasn't used at all after the '72 merger.

Edited to add:

Maybe the new name should be the original name that started AL and later US.

All American Airways.

I think Republic is taken already. Maybe a regional feeder for somebody?

Phoenix, while I like the intrinsic qualities of the name...it too is already in use, albeit in the Middle East, IL-18 operator I think.

The goal is to develop a name with fresh real-estate in the mind of the customer....TWA, Eastern, PanAm etc...all bring to the table some type of negative conotation. Nostalgia means squat.

I believe the original poster was looking for something constructive to discuss, rather than being a dipository for adolescent musings.

Now, Any other ideas?

I think that's way too close to American Eagle...and it wouldn't help their cause in gaining a new image!

There hasn't been any names that are non-traditional (i.e. containing Airlines, Airways)...why not something along the lines of jetBlue? My creativity is escaping me to suggest one at the moment...

Call me nostalgic, but the only way I'd like to see the National Airlines name come back is if the Sun King logo came with it:

The sad thing? We all know they'll get a bunch of Madison Avenue types together, creating focus groups to do market research on made-up names that they THINK the public might like.

End result? We'll get something lame that sounds like either a hotel chain or a new product from a pharmaceutical company.  sarcastic

Fly ALERION Airlines! No? Ok, how about PRENUVA! Or CETORON! No, how about VIANTRIA instead? Would SENDERIO be better?  sarcastic
