Beauty. I've never been on the Smurfjet but there's something about the look of it I like.

Beast !

Have never seen such an ugly plane: engines too small, undercarriage weird position and flaps VERY noisy being extended/retracted !!!

Only positive thing is, it's roomy inside  Wink

I used to crew the 146-300 for Air NZ, when they operated a few on a temporary basis.

Pax loved the 146 - we had 5 abreast seating which was very roomy and comfortable. They'd always say how much more comfy it was compared to the Air NZ 737-300s.

They could be a little cramped to work on, but overall were great.

  • Beauty to look at and for the passenger (with 5 abreast seating).
  • Beast to operate with these not very fuel efficient engines. Sadly the AVRO RJX was cancelled; it was the right aircraft at the wrong time ...

Definately BEAUTY

One of my favourite aircraft. To fly on, I've had the experience of both 2x3 and 3x3 seating and the former is definately superb, although I really couldn't see what all the whinging was about with regard to 3x3, its a bit tight but nothing traumatic like some have made out here in the past.

The only niggle was the vitually non-existant hand-luggage locker space for the seats under the wing, but let that be a lesson to those who take HUGE cases into the cabin when they ought to be checked in as hold luggage!

And let's face it, the 146/Avro reaches the parts other jets cannot reach!

amazing aircraft, very agile and convenient
I remember when Turkish first got them, i flew into Trabzon with a British captain giving line training at the time, it was a smooth flying and landing aircraft

most people complain about the flaps, to me, it was the one thing that helped make the avro more famous!
Could always tell when a 146 was overhead with the flaps in or out of the first setting lol

Love 'em! Have flown many times in 3x3 config with FlyBE, and also on 3x2 (I think) on Blue1 - great little aircraft, even if they do look a tad "different"!

Well, to remain within the confines of the question, I have to say beauty, although the 100/RJ70 series look a little stunted.

Having flown on Manx Airlines/BA G-MIMA oodles of times, I would say the best seat is 14F. First twin seat after the rows of triples, more legroom, more stowage space and chances are you get the seat to yourself.

LOL Geoff.

Actually, I have only flown the 146 twice (I think), both times being on EI (BRS-DUB-BRS and BHX-DUB-BHX). It was extremely comfortable and pleasant. I didn't hear any flap noise though.

Of course a beauty!
And for all those complaining about the 3x3 seating. The cabin of the RJ is only 8cm tighter than the B737-3/4/5 cabin.

funny that some you thing about a military cargo plane when seeing the Bae or RJ because the BAe146 was planned as a military transporter but due to lack of orders they built an airline version.

Another thing is the RJ is very nice to fly great cockpit better the older B737 and pretty cool perfomrance e.g. LCY and FLR!

It's a plane, so it's a beauty, but if any plane could be a beast I think the Avro could fall into that caregory. I think it looks cute, but to me it looks like a plane kids play with at two years old: top heavy, short, but with 4 engines nonetheless. I don't really like the angled high-wing design on any plane to be quite honest.

Fantastic aircraft! Flown on 2 "variants" BAe 146-300 and Avro RJ100, thoroughly enjoyed all my flights on them.

Very unique.

Quoting Ryanair737 (Reply 26):
Fantastic aircraft!

Couldn't agree more. Definitely my favourite type of aircraft. I've flown the 146-200 with CityJet and the RJ100 with CitiExpress.

Quoting Geoffm (Reply 22):

Perhaps its just me but I find the RJ has a more powerful take-off than, say, the 142. I flew BHX-CDG-BHX on a day trip last month on a CityJet 142 and on both legs, we took off quite sedately, the pilot only seemed to really open the throttle after the gear had been retracted.

Wonderful planes, great views out of the window! You're sure that you're not seated above the wing!
Flew many times on Swiss RJ100's with reasonable seat pitch,
Also flew twice on BUZZ, which had great interiour colours (Purple,Green!)
Flew ones on CityJet-Air France (EI-CMY) which was horrible. It was packed and I was seated in the last row. No reclining seat, bad pitch!

I flew with Swiss (MAN-ZRH) on the Avro last month. Very comfortable - I'm not sure I prefer it to the ERJ though. I'll be making another trip on the Avro at the end of the month. To me, the Avro sounded LOUD, and I am partially deaf, so must sound like an earthquake to normal passengers when the flaps are lowered. Great fun  Smile

Beauty. I flew many times with them on Crossair and Swiss. With its 2-3 seating it is most comfortable. You have a good view from all window seats because of its wings (help me: what is the English word for this kind of wings?). She is quiet and has very good landing and take-of abilities. It is always funny to watch them landing here in Zurich on r/w 28 which is 2500 m (8200 feet). They only use a third or fourth of it.

Beauty all the way!

I flew them with Ansett New Zealand a few times, and always loved it more than then NZ's 732s at that time.
Also been on LH and QF.

I love it being called the jumbolino  Smile
