If Indian A.netters Were To Start An Airline

Wed May 25, 2005 2:38 pm

I was wondering if the Indian A.Netters were given a chance to start a new airline, what would be the roles of the indian a.netters

It would be interesting to see how many of us would be able to fit into the organizational structure.

To start with,

Sean - CEO elect !
Mel - Director, Mx
Subin - Director, PR
Roy - Director, HR !!

what about the others, try to fill it up. Olly, Karan, Aseem, Anuj... and others.

I would be happy to get the marketing portfolio, that is what I hail from.  Wink

The first thing this "cabal" would do is to deny boarding to me, Texdravid!!  Silly

The second thing that some like Aseem and Mrniji would do is close down MAA airport!!  Wink

To take it on a serious note how will you position the airline- Low cost or full service - domestic or International?

Well the second part is easy to answer - The current rules require that you need five years domestic exposure before you can venture international. So domestic it will be!

Low Cost or Full Service?

Well fashionnable as the "Common Man's Favourite Airline" concept may be, I would go for a "medum frills" airline.

Some ways I will go about it

a, No PTVs or multi channel music - you can always bring ur walkman (oops discman) with you, cant you??? You save a ton on the IFE setup and with the average sector length between 90-120 mins, there is hardly enough time to watch a movie in full anyway!

b, Make sure enough newspapers are given - both vernacular and English - Indians are so used to this form of entertainment as you can see from the cabin crew running helter skelter on any morning flight to satisfy that TOI wallah who will not even dare to look at the "Hindu"!!!

c, Be health conscious - save only DIET versions of the popular softdrinks ! Not only will your passengers get healthier (after all who will turn away a free drink) it will also push up the volumes of your exclusive soft drink supplier, who is otherwise struggling to push these in other outlets! And before I forget we should not forget to give the FULL CAN, to prevent angry outbursts from agitated travellers!

I leave the floor open...........

Fleet B737NG/A320s,A few Cessna Citations & B777s.
Not a LCC but something like Kingfisher.

Guru can be in charge of Cabin crew  Smile

But without the IFE

For the fleet i would go for A319s for Domestic and if and when allowed A330s for international CHARTER operations, for popular holiday destinitions and also Cricket tours which i am sure will prove popular.

We need a cool name first. Somebody pls suggest something.
There is an Indian designer called RP Abraham. His designs are the best on MAP. Anybody know him?

Lets welcome onboard Pran as VP-Sales and Rajeev as VP - Yield Management

But, that still leaves Finance open.

About the aircraft....since Mel's our Engg Head...guess we'll obviously have to settle for the NGs  wink . I'd prefer A319/320 though.

The best name would be 'HOT AIR', reflecting t/o conditions in India.
The flagship (ship#1) could be christened "Hindustan Ambassador" out of respect for a form of transportation cherished by one and all, without fear of political, ethnic or religious correctness.

The route structure would be based on a daily opinion poll carried out at the airports based on sensitivity to customer and crew needs. IFE would be locked to a.net of course.

To keep costs down, the livery would have Bollywood billboards and 12 across seating. Trolley service will carry a 'Meals Ready' sign, universally understood in India.

 Smile

Now seriously, after lurking on a.net for 6 months, I think an Indian carrier would do well to have a secondary hub outside of India. A perfect example would be to do a hub and spoke out of Europe - this way you could fly from say Hyderabad to Charlotte with just one stop - my 2 cents.

Cheers

RE: If Indian A.netters Were To Start An Airline

This is going to be ... well.... a critisising post. So sorry in advance, im not bashing anyone just 'constructive criticism'  Smile.

If you guys are thinking of a KF model, then we do need PTV's. Besides, PTV are basically a big sunk cost if you get high quality ones, and as long as they dont break when kids push and pull at them you wont have high maintenance costs. I think it's a great thing to have on a 2.5 hours flight! Besdies most of the people traveling wont have ipods or discmans of their own! If you cant install PTV's then how about onboard music, It's an amazingly simple service to offer. If an airline has to succeed it needs more than good pricing to last, it needs great service! Cut corners at the right places, not when it comes to customer comfort. I'm not saying buy red carpets for everyone, but dont stop the easy, relatively smaller ways to help people. The newspapers and magazines are a great idea.

TKMCE, be health consious and only serve them DIET drinks? What kind of an idea is that? Serve normal AND diet and let them chose! Lets not force people to have diet pepsi, some people might do that to their kids but not customers. Heck, that would piss me off. Serve the full can, now i agree with you  Smile

Im not sure i like the Cessna Citation idea as well. If you are goign to use small planes on short, secondary routes no need for a twin jet aircraft. Besides, the Citation is more of a biz jet, not the best a/c to use in an airline. Use an ATR or Saab or something which is alot more fuel efficient. The Citation would be cool to look at, but thats about it. Makes no business sense to operate one.

And lastly, you guys run it, ill fly 'em
