CO E-135 (1.5hrs) Or DL CRJ (3hrs)?

Tue Jun 07, 2005 9:24 am

Guys,

I'm planning a trip to MTY next month and I'm trying to decide which route to take. My options are CCS-ATL-MTY and CCS-IAH-MTY. I want to get skyteam miles in my DL account. If I take DL I get 1000 more miles for the same price than CO, but I'll be stuck for 3hrs in a CRJ. I've never flown a CRJ or a E135, so I ask you guys for advice... take the extra miles and the CRJ or less miles but an E135 in a shorter leg?

Is the CRJ a CRJ200 or Cr7? I have heard that a Cr7 isn't as bad as a CRJ 200. I have never flown a CR7 though.

The EMB-135 is a nice little jet and offers better standup and better window views then the CRJ. I also think the service on Continental Express is a lot better.

I'd take an E-anything over a CRJ-100/200... but a CRJ-700 vs an ERJ-135 I'd say is a push. I've done the 700s, nice rides. Likewise, should ride a bit smoother with the significant more mass than the little 135... and since you'd get the additional miles I'd say rank them in this order.

CRJ 700
ERJ 135
CRJ 100/200

I have flown both types, Id say take the CRJ if it is a -700, if not then go for the E135.

Take the ERJ, hands down. The ERJ has the one side, which is very comfortable. I've done three hours on a CRJ (GSO-DFW), but it wasn't that bad, considering I had the exit row to myself. However, if you have a seatmate, the CRJ gets cramped after an hour or so. I'm not looking forward to my 2h20 minute CRJ ride in August, but at least the flight is pretty empty as of right now.

I've been on the ERJ-145 with COEX and the CRJ-200/900 with DH and HP/YV respectively. The ERJ is a great plane and it is even better if you are seated on the A side of the cabin as you will be seated by yourself. As for the CRJ's, I don't think I would ever set foot in a 200 again if I had a choice. The windows are way below eye level and the cabin feels rather cramped. Now the CRJ-900 is a major improvement. The windows are at eye level and the cabin is larger, but I still think I would go with the ERJ especially if I could get the A side.

Houston is friendlier to transit and Continental is paramount. On CO metal, I don’t believe you’ll receive 100% EQMs (elite qualifying miles) in your Sky Miles account – if it even matters. I believe you will receive 1000 bonus miles for booking on co.com, hence negating the 1000 extra miles DL is offering.

EMBQA: I'm not sure how tall you are, but if you're over 5'11" you can't stand up in an E135 (maybe shorter).

Anyway, the less time you can spend in an RJ the better, so I'd go with the Embraer.

I would choose to fly the ERJ!

Those DL CRJ-200's are really cramped!

No question, CO E-135 . . . without a doubt.

First, consider your airline choices . . . CO or DL, that ought to solve your delimna immediately.

Then the aircraft . . . CRJ or ERJ, ERJ wins that too.

Have a nice ride!!

I've got to disagree with most of you all on this one. The ERJ just seems smaller to me then the CRJ when I am sitting down. I can't actually sit upright in the window seats on an ERJ. I'm only 6'2 and I have to turn my head down in order to sit in the seat. CRJ's aren't the most comfortable in the world...particularly for a 3 hr leg, but 3 hours sitting up right is better the 1 hr with my head on my shoulder.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have no idea whether it's a CRJ-200 or a CRJ-700. Delta's website, expedia, traveolcity only say CRJ. Is there a way to find out?

IF Seatguru is in concert with Delta's web site then see the following link:

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Del...es/Delta_Airlines_Canadair_CRJ.php

And you can see the rest of the Delta (and Continental) aircraft seat plans here. I find they are generally right on target.

Delta’s website will say “Canadair Jet 700” when it is a 700 and just “Canadair Jet” when it’s a 200.

The CRJ's are the worst planes as far as comfort that I have EVER flown. The few times that I have had to fly them I can not wait to get off them and each time I swear never again.

The schedule says CRJ-200.

I'd rather take a hot-air balloon than a CRJ-200....I elected for an RJ on my next flight from CAK-DTW - but that's a short hop.

Take the ERJ - and if you are flying alone - grab the personal row. That is one of the things I love about the ERJ and if you are spotting, it is more favorable than the CRJ.
