Ok, I'll give TAM another one: I like the A332 over the 767.

Hi!

I flew last year both airlines. I flew RG from Rio to Curitiba and back, and I flew TAM from Curitiba to Assuncion and back ( with a 20 minutes stop at Foz do Iguaçu ). In RG I flew a 737-300 and a 500 ( this one from Nordeste ), with TAM I flew the Fokker F100.
The service on RG was very standard, a small hot calzone pizza, a cake and a beverage, both flights were quite full taking in mind that those flights headed and came from Florianopolis. The airplanes looked a bit old but clean, although I had flown before on the 737-300 the 500 was a first for me.
TAM was a pleasant surprise. The service was good, we got a light meal on the first half of the flight until Foz do Iguaçu and the plane was full of empty seats on that section of the flight. From Foz do Iguaçu to Assuncion I think the plane got a good load of passengers. The Fokker F100 looked a great airplane for those types of flights, very silent ( the engines on the back help ) and a very flexible platform. Our flights came all way from Buenos Aires and headed to Santiago do Chile, and that really impressed me!!!!
Just for the posterity here it goes the registrations:

Rio/Curitiba - RG 737-300 PP-VQZ
Curitiba/Rio - Nordeste 737-500 PT-MNI
Curitiba/Foz do Iguaçu/Assuncion - TAM Fokker F100 PT-MQT
Assuncion/Foz do Iguaçu/Cutiriba - TAM Fokker F100 PT-MQM

You've had one really bad experience. I'm sorry for that, but it doesn't mean the airline is sh*t. If you read trip reports, most people say they are average to good, even now a days that their service has deteriorated a lot.

I really don't take it personally, but you seem to hype things a bit considering you only flew with them that one time.

TAM is better for me. I have flown Varig several time GRU-JHB and it wasn't that great of an experience. As for TAM on domestic flights....all I can say is that its great. Imagine what it would be like on an international flight.

I haven't flown either JJ or PZ, but I've flown RG. Their service is outstanding. And their MD-11s too Big grin

My votes go for RG.

Cheers! wave

TAM all the way! You just have to make sure you don't get one of those zero recline seats on the F100, they are a baaad pain. It's a pity TAM offer so few int'l destinations.

JJ along with LA are the best in the Americas (North, Central and South).

TAM. Period. Varig is trying to survive and should take lessons on how to treat customers from her rival.
