The CRJ-700, Sexiest Looking RJ

Tue Jun 21, 2005 3:40 am

Well, I just got back from FAT. My flight from DEN-FAT and FAT-DEN was on the CRJ-700. What a sexy aircraft! Long and sleek with those huge winglets, and OH SO quiet. I think this HAS to be my favorite RJ. I've always liked the CRJ series, but the 700 takes the cake. Flew on Skywest (UA Express, New C/S) to FAT. Boy does that thing get up and go. I was really surprised at the wingflex on that baby. Usually, it seems that planes with shorter wings seem not to flex that much in turbulence, well, that's wrong for the -700. When I walked into the plane, it had that new car smell, with leather seats. It was also the first RJ I've seen with a first class section, and economy plus. The cabin reminded me a lot of the Concorde's cabin, minus the digital speed readout on the front of the bulkheads. We climbed right up to cruising altitude in no time.

Anyway, I just wanted to give my tribute to a great plane.

I have loved every trip I've taken on the -700. What a great plane! Quiet up front. Comfortable for passengers. Just a great all around airplane!

I hate the CRJ--they say that the -700 is much more comfortable than the -200 and -900; I hope so. I still prefer the ERJ over the CRJ any day--Looks as well.

Exterior wise, the CRJ, no matter what series, is one of the coolest airliners ever designed! Bombardier designs cool planes! Sitting on the earlier models was not that much fun for this 6' 1 1/2" guy. And the window was too low. Is the 700 series more comfortable? I hope so.

Fly on the CRJ-700, then complain about it. Don't make comparisons between the 200's and 700's, though if you havn't even set foot inside a 700. The 700 was designed around more passenger comfort. I've been on both the 200 and 700, and can tell you the 700 is heads and shoulders above the rest of the CRJ line.

In lieu of your snide attitude I appreciate the clarification that the -700 is more comfortable than the -200. I still don't find the long CRJs too attractive. Maybe I will no longer avoid flying them since they are 'head and shoulder above the rest of the CRJ line'

Ive flown on the CRJ-700 both with Skywest (UA Express) SLC-DEN and Horizon (QX) BOI-PDX, and while they are DEFINITELY better then the CRJ-200, I still didn't care for them as the legroom as lacking and shoulder space was limited as well. Granted, I'm 6'4", but still.. it was not very comfortable for me. I much preferred the Q400 on QX. Comfortable, better legroom, more spacious cabin, etc.

Now if I can only get the -900, I'll be set. Last CRJ I need to fill out the series (-100/-200 and -700 are checked off)...

The windows in the -700 are have a much better design. They are higher, which makes viewing much more comfortable. The -200 windows are about shoulder height, which means you have to lean over to look out. The -700 is quite a bit more comfortable. Yes, the planes that I took both had leather seats. They were a dark blue, and VERY cushiony (I know that's probably not a word). It seriously looked like the interior of the Concorde. And that new plane smell mixed with coffee and jet fuel, damn, you gotta love that!

Never flown it, in fact, never flown a regional jet, but from the ones I have seen, it is my favourite type pf RJ. (only seen Delta, Usairways, Air Canada and American examples)

He was talking about the newer -700's with leather seats. The pics that you have are of the -200's

I'd stick with the ERJ-145 for exterior appearance. I call it the poor man's Lear Jet with its looks. Closest I'll probably ever get to a Lear lol.

For performance, the CRJ-700 seems to leap off the runway. Better performance than anything else I've been on from a pax perception. (I'm not a pilot so I can't speak from the cockpit perception).

For pax comfort, I'm only 5'8" so I'll stick with the left side seat on an ERJ-series any day. You can't beat not having to put up with someone you don't know beside you... and a guaranteed window seat. The CRJ-700's are a vast improvement over the -1/200's though. I too, like many here, haven't done the CRJ-900 yet, nor have I done the E-170 (or bigger) Embraers either. If the E170 is as much of an improvement over the E-145, as the CRJ-700 was over the -200... that E-170 might be the best plane ever built for a domestic flight from a pax standpoint. I avoid the CRJ-1/200's like the plague though, and rarely fly Delta to stay away from the things... flying CO all the chances I get because of their Embraer fleet.

BTW, since when has it been allowed that you can use cell phones while taxiing? They told us that we could, just not during flight or take off. All other electronic devices had to be shut off, but the cell phones you could use. Strange....

I appreciate that. I learned something today.    So far, there is no cabin view photos of newer -700's, just yet. But thanks again for the

I love to look at the CRJs. The proportions are just great. You know, aside from the 747, engine placements, and tails, airplanes look pretty much the same to the novice eye. I like the size of the commuters because things like livery just looks right. And the climb out on the CRJ can be almost thrilling.

But being over 6.5 feet tall, I really tend to avoid them.

Only when you have an aisle seat! The window seats have VERY little legroom due the fuselage curving inside. Your legs and feet are almost at the neighbours space - the only thing I don't like on the DH8 at all...

I flew the CRJ900 with America West Express PHX-LGB-PHX, and loved the plane. A friend referred to it as a "long cigar" - I think it looks sleek  Smile

What can I say, I love the CRJ. I would prefer the -700, over Pinnacle's though. It is a nice aircraft overall, but very cramped to work in as you can imagine.

The windows are of the same size and location as on the -200. On the -700 and -900 they lowered the cabin floor level a few inches to improve pax comfort. That´s all.
