Economy Class To Business Class

Tue Jun 21, 2005 11:25 pm

I will be flying from Madrid to Las Palmas on July 25th and flying back on July 28th.

I will be flying out on a A340-300 and back on a A340-600.

For economy it is $820 total for me, my mom and dad. If we flew business class it would be $1022 total for the three of us.

If you where in my situation would you opp to fly this:

Look at it this way:

How much is the good meal worth to you?
$20
How much are the extra miles worth to you?
$20
The IFE, considering it's almost $10 nowadays to go to the movies?
$25
The extra legroom?
$22
Cool things to take home with you, like the Menu, the Business Class Kit, ...
$16.99
The 20 minutes less line time at check-in?
$5

and so on... just go on until you reach $200! I could easily get there in a couple of minutes!

That "special" feeling about being better than the average Joe Sixpack?
Priceless!
All the things you probably hate about travelling are warm reminders that I'm home

How long is the flight? if its less than three hours I say save the money and spend it somewhere more worthwhile. If it is a longer flight you could set up a couple of kitchen chairs ala economy, sit them down and ask them if they'd like that for x hours, then offer them the living room couch. $68 a piece is not that hard to justify for a long flight, but if it is short you are just wasting.

IB domestic C is crap. I wouldn't pay much extra for it even if it includes a longhaul J seat, although I am used to a much more polished service in shorthaul C class with BA. Having said that $200 split between three people is nothing so I'd pay for it.

If you are used to flying with third rate airlines then it may be worth going for but don't expect unbridled luxury. Also look at how close you are to earning higher or retaining status in your FFP.

It's about 2h45 average each way - seeing as Expedia is coming up with Biz at 2.5x times the price of Cattle, I'd say it's a bargain! Just about long enough to make it worthwhile.

I have no experience of Iberia though... Air Europa any good?

Still can't beat SE Asia upgrade prices though - I've paid not more than GBP5 for the same flight for biz class instead of economy when it's been offered! (Malaysian and Thai).

Air Europa business class is almost the same as their economy class on the B737.

Since I am leaving Spain, I wanted to have the experience of flying Iberia on business class.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I am going to confrence my parentals.

I have been looking at Iberia.com and expedia.com and it would make more sense to show my parents expedia since the price difference is $348 and on Iberia it is $855!

In a flight over three hours I would always take business if you can afford. Under three hours it is not worth.

as 727EMflyer and others said, for such a short flight, it's not really worth it. But one thing is right: 200$ more is really not much!

I'd go for it, as long as they don't suddenly switch to an A319 Big grin
