I remember it well...because I majorly
In 1983, my company flew me from MSP
to fix an alternator problem on an ambulance. I was excited because it was my first flight on a commercial airliner and I was getting paid to do it! My dad was a stateside B-29 pilot during the Korean War and flew Cessnas and Pipers afterward. I'd flown dozens of times in C170's, C150's, C172's, PA20's, and PA28's...whatever airplane he could scrounge from friends.
I had five toolboxes and a suitcase to check. I drove myself to MSP
for my 06:10 flight and "parked" in the drop-off lane just outside from the Delta counter. I had my hazard flashers on and an MSP
Airport Police officer helped me load all the toolboxes and suitcase onto a trolley. I told him I was going to check-in and return to park my car in the long-term ramp.
It was to be a one-stop flight. MSP
, then BOS
. On finals into BOS
, I realized that I'd forgotten to park my car at MSP
! I turned to the guy sitting next to me on the 727 and called out, "Oh no!" I told him what happened and he laughed his ass off. He said he was going to PWM
, too, and that we had about 15 minutes before the flight continued onto PWM
I got off the plane and called home from a payphone. I told my mom to call MSP
police and explain what happened. I told her I'd call her from PWM
to see what she found out. She said they'd towed the car to their impound lot.
I returned to MSP
(at 2355) four days later. After paying the parking fine and storage fees, an MSP
police officer got ahold of a towing company to give me a ride to my car. I had to pay the towing guy for the ride, to reconnect the transmission linkage, and to jumpstart my car. Those four days of wages were gone.
I never told my boss about that part of the trip.
