Do You Have An In Flight IPod Playlist?

Wed Aug 10, 2005 11:30 am

This may seem like an odd thread here, but, for those of you who fly on a regular basis, do you have an in-flight playlist? If so, what type of songs do you have listed in it? Going through all my songs i've managed to find about 10-20 songs that are in someway related to flying etc. I was going to post this in non-aviation related, but, I feel it is related.

Thanks!

I make playlists while flying but they just reflect my current mood and have nothing to do with aviation or the flight.

For flying I like to keep things eclectic: Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Patsy Cline, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Denver...  biggrin

Slashd0t, what are they? I'm looking for songs, but can't find any Aviation themed ones.

Well, some just mention flying or travelling or whatever I found interesting at the time while in flight.. Not all are flying related:

Cake - Wheels
Traveling Band - CCR
Leaving on a Jet Plane - (By Chantal Kreviazuk because I like her version best)
First Thing - Choclair (Just because they mention Pearson Airport near the end)
Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
Amsterdam - Coldplay
Darling Nikki - Foo Fighters (Has an interesting hotel part)
Fly me to the moon - Matt Dusk version
Go - Moby (Just an interesting song)
Come Away With Me (Norah Jones)
Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd
Flying - Prism
Journey to the end of the East Bay - Rancid
Road Tripping - Red Hot Chilly Peppers
Around the World - RHCP
Across the Sea - Weezer
The Quiet Things That No One Knows - Brand New
Lost in the Air - Cave In
Where Planes Go Down - Vermont

You should probably lengthen your playlist a bit, I can't imagine you could listen to just that on a long flight! Also I think this should be in polls & prefs.

You are correct.. I'm usually through this while waiting for my often delayed flight :P To be honest, I almost never listen to this playlist while in flight hah .

I don't have a "flying playlist", but one song that I always listen to when flying is "Stratford-On-Guy" by Liz Phair. The song opens with a line about flying into Chicago and the music video has shots of UA planes landing at ORD.

Slashdot, this is one of the better threads started lately in my opinion. It is a different thread, but good subject. I do not have one, but its a great idea! Thank you!

I actually have a playlist on my iPod called "inflight" and it's a mix of all my favorites. Everything from hip hop to rock to oldies. Anything that puts me in a good mood. Music makes an already amazing experience (flying) even better!

I have a playlist when I use the flight simulator:

Around the World - Aqua
Around the World - ATC
Euro dance - More around the world
Leaving on a jet plane - John Denver

That's about it for now.

Every airline lover must include the following song. Its a techo/dance song, but the first part of the song is the sound of a plane landing with the sound of the pre-departure safety demo in the background. Great song!

Oh god no, its not techno or dance, PVD is bloody Trance. And only the Reflections (Reflections Original mix) has the plane safety demo and jet sound.

I make an inflight playlist of (always varies by aircraft type):

1) songs I haven't gotten a chance to listen to yet

2) songs that put me in a good mood while flying

Sometimes I don't listen to the playlist, and just pick random songs.

A few that do make it into my inflight playlist all the time (not aviation related, but close  Wink )

Green Day - When I Come Around
Death Cab for Cutie - The Sound of Settling
Yellowcard - Way Away
Some things are actually better at 30,000+ feet...
