Harrisburg International Airport has been serving Central Pennsylvania for over 100 years. First, in 1898, the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army was stationed here. Then, the first airplanes landed in 1918 at what was then called Olmsted Air Force Base. By the time it was decommissioned in 1969, the base had grown to employ 11,400 civilians. At this point, Harrisburg International Airport began to serve the public, under the ownership of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I figured that, but I just have never heard of West being used as a designation for a runway...If another one is added, seems like it should be 5L, 5C, 5R.

FAA.. go figure.. Appendix C Page 2.

It's from 2003 but the most up to date.. It states the FAA recommendation is to extend 5R/23L and add 5W/23W.. and all of this is post-Midway

BTW: For those too lazy to look into Boeings website, the longest rwy at HAJ (09R/25L) is 12467 ft (3800 m) X 148 ft (45 m), making it a shared #3 in runway-lengths in Germany (for commercial airports).
#1: FRA 18 4500 m - I never noticed that this one is THAT long !
#2: 2x MUC (8L & 8R) , 2xFRA (7L & 7R) 4000 m

Since the airport is inside the city, there is no room for expansion.  Sad
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Home Airport: Roborough Airfield; PLH/EGHD (Plymouth):

Runway 13/31 1,170m (3,838ft).
Runway 06/24 752m (2,467ft).

Both runways are paved, largest aircraft to land is a BAe146, regular passenger service with DHC8's and ATR42's, both have a maximum load of around 30 passengers due to short runway.

Second Home Airport: Mahon, Menorca International: MAH/LEMH

Runway 01/19 2,350m (7,709ft).
