Wright Amendment, Is This Valid: "Hurts Econo

I searched the database on polls about the Wright Admenment, and could not find any.

Since the civil aviation forum is full of facts and emotions, I thought that just maybe we all could use the Polls forum to vote on specific points in the whole discussion. Most topics I intend to be serious, but some might end up just being, ah, lighterer?

I'm doing this for a personal reason, to learn. I don't understand some of the discussions that have appeared in the recent posts.

So here goes with poll number one:

Eliminating the Wright and Shelby Amendments will result in a substantial reduction of flights from D/FW airport resulting in harmful effects on the local economy.

If you vote yes, why?
If you vote no, why?
If you don't think this is a valid point, why?

I'll start off by voting NOT VALID.
• Airports expand, contract, airlines come and go, flights are added and removed all the time. History seems not to support this point because no one involved in the current Wright discussions is showing the affects at other airports that have lost hubs or a substantial quantity of flights.
• DFW has already seen three major airlines close their hubs, first Braniff, then Texas International, and earlier this year Delta's hub.
• Commercial aviation is a free market for airlines. Fly where you want, when you want, with what you want, for a price you aught to make a profit with. The market will fill voids. If another airline wants to fly between ICT and DFW or DAL or FTW today, they can do so. It's just that none want to take on AA.

The Wright amendment was essentially designed to keep WN's progress to a minimum. The Senator which created the bill apparently had strong ties to AA, and at the time AA's biggest fear was WN. With them knowing that WN would not operate out of DFW to keep costs down, they passed the Wright Amendment which prevented outgoing flights from Love to only a few states. Look at WN's current route map out of Love and see how tiny it is compared to their other cities...and Love is their home base. The Wright Amendment does nothing(or rather, did nothing) but protect AA, but as we all know, WN had the last laugh...

In most cases, restricting free enterprise does nothing but creat dead-weight loss in an economy. Basically, creating artificial market conditions is almost always worse than letting the "invisible hand" figure it out. So, I would say from my economic studies, that the Wright Amendment is indeed bad for the economy as a whole, while it may produce desirable outcomes for the minority (AA).
