What Can I Expect - MAN-JFK BA 763?

Sun Sep 04, 2005 8:05 am

British Airways are offering some expectacular offers on their flights between MAN-JFK flying in November.

I remember reading on here earlier in the year that BA were going to refurbish their 763's which operate on the MAN-JFK route to bring them in line with the 777 fleet.

Couple of questions:

Has this happened on the aircraft operating this route?

Does this aircraft offer PTV's in Y?

Does the service differ to BA's mainline fleet as it states the MAN-JFK route "is operated by British Airways CitiExpress"?

Whats the legroom like? (Does it match US Airwasy 34inch?)

I am actually travelling to a small town in NJ between Philly and NYC, I have always flown US Airways on the route either LGW/MAN-PHL depending on the prices - as a Dividend member and I am a fan of the 333's operating the route.  Wink

United's fares out of LHR are not much more than BA to JFK, does anyone know if I can earn my Dividend miles on this flight? I am aware both US and UA are members of the Star Alliance - As I am aware that AA and BA do not allow passengers of each others FF Program earn miles on the London-NYC route unless they are flying with the respected airline their FF Program belongs too. Was wondering if they had a similar policy.

You will never find EGCC-KJFK operated by CitiExpress  Wink

BACX operate the smaller aircraft such as the ERJs and DH8s etc and only operate short to medium routes  Smile

If you are a member of Dividend Miles, you are much better off utilizing US Airways or United.

BTW, is there anything to do in MAN? Good pubs? I was thinking about coming over for a weekend at the end of the month?

Short answer - the BA 763 service between MAN and JFK is very average in terms of service and amenities and, in my opinion, not up to the standard of other BA longhaul flights. There is nothing wrong with the flight, its just nothing special in any class of service. As far as I know, the updated 763s are not yet operating this route. You may be disappointed when comparing the BA 763s with the very nice and very comfortable and very new US A333s.

And, I do believe that the JFK-MAN flight, the only BA long haul flight that does not serve LHR, is operated in conjuction with CitiExpress, its nothing more than a technicality as the 763s are from BA's mainline fleet, but the crews working the flights are, I think, employeed by the Citiexpress subsidiary.

Definately!

I am not from the Manchester area and not all that familair with the city but...

Manchester is one of the largest cities outside of London.

The nightlife and pubs is renowned to be some of the best in Europe and Liverpool is only 30mins away and if your interested in the Beatles there lots of places to visit there.

If boasts good shopping and had major re-generation in the last few years.

Historic Cities like Chester and York are about 1.5hr away. The beautiful mountains and lakes of North Wales and the Lake District are about 2hrs away.

It does not have all the attractions of London and is not really a major tourist destination but could be worth a visit.

Do the longhaul BA 763's have First class and/or the sleeper Club World seats?

The newly refurbished 767s have Club World sleepers and no First. The old 767s have Old Club World and 8 First seats. There is no combo on the 767 of CW sleepers and First seats.

No, the 767 out of MAN is the last of the BA fleet to get Club World sleepers

Nope. Good old mainscreen entertainment.....yikes.

31 inches I believe. Although not flown the MAN route in the back.

If you are collecting your US miles I'd go with that. Especially if they have 34inches of pitch  thumbsup

Cool! I might have to check it out. I'm thinking of doing it so I can maybe make Chairman's Preferred for next year (need about 30,000 more miles or 29 more segments).

I read in the trade paper in UK recently that the route will be "|Time expired" next year so it may be your last chance. According to this information it is operated by Cityexpress?? Maybe is a wet/dry lease or just the cabin crew are Cityexpress anyway I would get your miles and enjoy the seat space on US
