DFW - FRA: DL, AA Or NW?

Tue Oct 04, 2005 7:02 am

I will be flying from Dallas to Frankfurt in Deceber, and will be choosing American, Delta or Northwest (in coach). Here's my personal observations:

AA: This will be a 777, which is a very nice, spacious aircraft. The seats are somewhat comfortable, but the FAs are fair to poor, and the food is not very good.

DL: This will most likely be a 767. DL's FAs are fair to good, but the seats are horribly cramped, IIRC. The food is decent, but nothing specatcular.

NW: I have only flown NW DC9s. They were decent planes, but the FAs were decent, and the seats decent. I'm not sure about their food, though. This flight can either be a DC10 or A330.

Any feedback / thoughts / suggestions?

Here are my thoughts:

AA: Never flown them so I cant say.

DL: Good airline, but when I took them to FRA I hated it, the worse flights of my life, domestically they were fine.

NW: DC-9, standard, nothing for Domestic, however FRA has been an A330 for about 2 years or so now, it remains a A333, and will have AVOD and a rather comfortable flight.

Go with AA. T7s are so nice. They're very comfortable, and if you get can get an upgrade, than its definatly worth it. I like AA's flight attendants, personally, if you show some courtesy and respect.

Untrue. There are alot of good people that work for AA. Basing your observation on limited experiences is unfair at best.

AA still has MRTC on their 777 fleet. All a/c food sucks. I've personally flown AA #70/71. The flight was excellent. Was seated next to a Lt Colonel in the Army and heard alot of great stories from the first war in Iraq.

AA all the way.

My comments are from my own personal experience and observations; I want to see what others have experiences. It is not my intention to criticize any airline or airline staff, but to use other Airliners.net memeber's experience to make an informed decision.

Are AA's 767s better than DLs?

I haven't flown on AA or DL for long hauls, but I did fly NW from DTW to FRA earlier this year and was pleasently surprised. The A330 is a great aircaft and even though the cabin was under staffed, the cabin crew did keep a professional attitude and did the best they could.

I would AA, as its a nonstop flight... + when I travelled with AA the food wasnt that bad...

question what are the fares? --- because if there is a siginficant price-different I would take the cheapest option.

LH? No thanks. They're too expensive for this trip, and it seems others do not find them very favorable.

This thread matches my LH experiences perfectly:

My first reccomendation would be for the NWA A330. If you can get on an A330 both ways than go with them, but if they try to stick you on a DC-10 across the pond don't do it. Very nice IFE on these birds also.  Smile

If you can't get the A330 with NW my next personal choice would be the AA 777. I'm a huge 777 fan, and usually they're very comfortable no matter what airline. I've also heard great things about AA's 777s so they would be my second choice. They have PTVs also, but not as nice as NW's AVOD system.

If I were you I would absolutely NOTTT go with DL! I've heard from others the 767 with DL Transatlantic is extremely uncomfortable, and IFE and service sucks.  Wink

Delta 767: Wasted too many hours flying them to FRA from both BOM and the US. They are the only airline I know of that have run out of food in economy on multiple flights, each time the situation handled differently based on how good the crew was. Not fun!

AA 777: Excellent legroom with rather sub par entertainment. Food and crew are average at best, just like any other US airline

NW 333: Decent legroom with fantastic AVOD PTV system. Food and crew are on par with the other two, if not a slight bit better from my experience.

Having tried all three airlines in economy, in my opinion the choice for me is easy, NW!

I would take AA or NW. AA 777 are great. I have flown them a few times and always have a great flight and food really is not that bad either.

I have bought a ticket for AA: AUS-DFW-FRA. They had the best times and the best price.

I hope the food is better than it was in May, and I can talk them out of a deck of playing cards.  Wink
